2020 Rookie/Devy Mock (Part 1)
The Setup
In this mock draft, 12 members of the dynasty community teamed up to compare this year’s draft class with the classes that are coming in the following seasons. For this process, the rules that were assumed are Superflex, PPR, with a .5 TE premium. The draft was 6 rounds. Part 1 of this article will be rounds 1-3, with rounds 4-6 to come. While this project doesn’t feature hard-hitting analysis, it is fun to see where the likes of Ja’Marr Chase and Trevor Lawrence went when compared to Joe Burrow and CeeDee Lamb.

12 | J-Sut | @DffJsut | Rondale Moore, WR, Purdue |
Alright, for most rounds of this mock Ill be sticking to finding my favorite and least favorite picks of each round. In round 1, there is too much value to pick just 1. For starters, I love the pick of Joe Burrow at 1.03 by @PiersonFF. Burrow should be going 1.01 in this year’s draft and as such should probably be going 1.01 in a draft including future prospects as well. While he may not be the most talented prospect, he did put together one of the best college seasons ever and will begin scoring points in 2020. Speaking of a steal, @The_DTurner86 took Ja’Marr Chase at 1.11. Chase is currently my favorite non-QB on any college player so getting him at the back of the first is a steal. Now on to my least favorite pick. I’m not going to pick on @DailyHitman too much here as he thought college players were scoring points also and let’s face it Hill is going to be a PPR animal under Mike Leach. Kylin Hill 1.01 is way too high though in this draft, especially considering that it is Superflex. This pick should have been Joe Burrow or Trevor Lawrence.
Round 2
Round 2 | |||
1 | J-Sut | @DffJsut | Travis Etienne, RB, Clemson |
2 | Daniel Turner | @The_DTurner86 | Justyn Ross, WR, Clemson |
3 | Troy Breisch | @TroyBreisch | Chuba Hubbard, RB, Oklahoma State |
4 | Michael Fonte | @m_fonte85 | Henry Ruggs, WR, Alabama |
5 | Ryan Cearfoss | @fntsyfbconnect | Cam Akers RB, Florida State |
6 | Ray Ray Marz | @RayRayMarz | Rashod Bateman, WR, Minnesota |
7 | JT Maynard | @FatAdamSchefter | Jaret Patterson, RB, Buffalo |
8 | Tyler Makings | @TPM_Sports | Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon |
9 | Tommy Mo | @2on1FFB | Jalen Reagor, WR, TCU |
10 | Caleb Pierson | @PiersonFF | George Pickens, WR, Georgia |
11 | Colin Decker | @cdecker613 | Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB LSU |
12 | Daily Fantasy Hitman | @DailyHitman | Denzel Mims, WR, Baylor |
On to round 2. @RayRayMarz walked away with a stud. Rashod Bateman out of the University of Minnesota. Bateman can easily be put in the argument with Ja’Marr Chase as the top receiver in the 2021 class and is my number 2 non-QB in devy rankings. My least favorite pick in this round is probably Jaret Patterson. @FatAdamSchefter made this pick at 2.07. While I may be wrong on this one, Patterson is a slow, undersized back out of Buffalo. On the other hand, he dropped 1800 rushing yards in 2019. If Patterson shows out in 2020, he may get drafted in the first round of rookie drafts like another small running back, Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Round 3
Round 3 | |||
1 | Daily Fantasy Hitman | @DailyHitman | Brandon Aiyuk, WR, ASU |
2 | Colin Decker | @cdecker613 | Justin Jefferson, WR LSU |
3 | Caleb Pierson | @PiersonFF | Amon Ra St. Brown, WR, USC |
4 | Tommy Mo | @2on1FFB | Zack Moss, RB, Utah |
5 | Tyler Makings | @TPM_Sports | Seth Williams, WR, Auburn |
6 | JT Maynard | @FatAdamSchefter | Laviska Shenault, WR, Colorado |
7 | Ray Ray Marz | @RayRayMarz | Najee Harris, RB, Alabama |
8 | Ryan Cearfoss | @fntsyfbconnect | DeVonta Smith – WR, Alabama |
9 | Michael Fonte | @m_fonte85 | Eno Benjamin, RB, Arizona State |
10 | Troy Breisch | @TroyBreisch | Tee Higgins, WR, Clemson |
11 | Daniel Turner | @The_DTurner86 | Breece Hall, RB, Iowa State |
12 | J-Sut | @DffJsut | Sam Howell, QB, UNC |
Alright, for the last round of part 1, my favorite pick came in at 3.12 by @DffJsut. Sam Howell looks to be the QB1 of the 2022 class and as such deserves to be drafted higher in a Superflex league. As a true freshman, Howell threw for 3,600 yards and 38-7 touchdown to interception ratio in the ACC. There are a couple picks in this round that I wasn’t a fan of, but that is more about the player than the pick. First off, @2on1FFB selected Zack Moss at 3.04. Zack Moss is a solid prospect, but he doesn’t have any elite traits. I’d rather take a chance on a guy like Breece Hall or Zach Charbonnet who were drafted later on. The other pick that I wasn’t a fan of and for the same reasons was a pick made by @m_fonte85 at 3.09. Eno Benjamin may be a solid 3rd down back in the NFL, but he likely will never be a reliable fantasy asset.
