Four Down Territory: So About Preseason…

First Down

The topic of conversation after week two is without doubt injuries.

Seriously.

Follow @insideinjuries. Very fascinating account.

Before the season, and over the years, players and fans argued that the preseason was unnecessary and only raised the risk of injury to star players.

But it seems the lack of preseason has caused more damage. Granted there’s no sceintific proof that a lack of preseason is the root of this injury plague but it’s not a far stretch of the imagniation.

As much as players complain about preseason it should be noted how valuable those reps are. Slowly adjusting your body to game action seems to be a crucial part of recovering from the offseason. It also gives end of the roster guys an opportunity to show their skills before cut day.

It also should be noted that due to COVID the number of paded practices were limited. Another opportunity for players to get used to hitting and transitioning to the start of the season was gone.

That will change next season as a new collective barganing agreement was reached earler this year.

The Super Bowl will be won by the team with the best scouting department and medical staff.

Another interesting piece of information that came out after Sunday was the 49ers complaining about the turf at MetLife Stadium in New York.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan also had some words about the turf.

So what does the NFL do about this?

For starters the NFL field operations team will investigate the field conditions to confirm that it’s safe.

Will they find anything? Probably not.

MetLife is one of the newer stadiums in the NFL opening in 2010. This is also the first team that has complanied about the turf in the stadium. As of now it seems like the unluckiest day in NFL history.
