It’s January. What a better time then to do our first 2021 NFL Mock Draft of the season? For this mock, we had eight writers take a division and draft for every team in that division. 1.01 Jacksonville Jaguars | QB Trevor Lawrence – Clemson

Trevor Lawrence has been the number 1 overall pick in 2021 since he won a national championship as a true freshman. He’s tall, he can run he can throw, and all he’s done is win at Clemson (last week not included).

1.02 New York Jets | QB Justin Fields – Ohio State

The new Jets regime starts fresh with their own QB at the helm. If not for Trevor Lawrence, Fields would be in the conversation to go first overall.

1.03 Miami Dolphins | WR Devonta Smith – Alabama

The Dolphins go all in on Tua and get him a weapon in the Heisman trophy winner and former teammate . A WR corps of Smith, DeVante Parker, and Preston Williams has explosive offense written all over it.

1.04 Atlanta Falcons | QB Zach Wilson – BYU

In the 2020 season, Wilson threw for 33 TDs, 3,692 yards and only three picks. Matt Ryan is 35, and the Falcons need a new face to be their future. Wilson can study under Ryan, and be ready to carry the torch in 2022.

1.05 Cincinnati Bengals | OT Penei Sewell – Oregon

Oregon Sewell is the consensus #1 OL on the board and Cincinnati would be smart to shore up the line to protect their franchise QB in Joe Burrow, who has already been injured.

1.06 Philadelphia Eagles | WR Ja’Marr Chase – LSU

The tank job in Week 17 pays the dividends Philadelphia hoped for. No matter who is taking snaps they’ll be happy to see Chase.

1.07 Detroit Lions | QB Trey Lance – North Dakota State

 

Matt Stafford is under contract until the end of the 2022 season. Drafting Lance gives them the heir to the QB throne and the opportunity to learn without being thrown into the fire as a rookie. The new coaching staff gets “their guy” to build the franchise.

1.08 Carolina Panthers | DB Patrick Surtain – Alabama

Surtain is the top CB prospect in the draft. At 6’2 and 203lbs, he is big, physical, and has the ability to cover big receivers. The Panthers need depth at CB with Douglas and Elder becoming free agents. The Panthers can expect Surtain to learn the playbook immediately and make big plays in 2021. I love this Bama prospect and what he can bring to the secondary!

1.09 Denver Broncos | OLB/ Edge Kwity Paye – Michigan

Denver has many needs but the defense needs the most help overall. With Bradley Chubb more than likely leaving via free agency, Denver will need more defensive pass rushers to team up with Von Miller. Without a pass rush in the AFC West, their defense will never succeed.

1.10 Dallas Cowboys | DB Caleb Farley – Virginia Tech

Doesn’t matter who the DC is in Dallas. They need help EVERYWHERE!

1.11 New York Giants | DL Gregory Rousseau – Miami(FL)

Leonard Williams needs some help, if retained, and the Giants need help rushing the passer.

1.12 San Francisco 49ers | LB Micah Parsons – Penn State

The 49ers looked like the deepest team in 2019 but needs emerged all over in 2020. Parsons represents too much value and versatility at this spot though.

1.13 LA Chargers | OL Christian Darrisaw – Virginia Tech

OL/Virginia Tech The Chargers need to protect their franchise. The Chargers offensive needs help and is not getting any younger.

1.14 Minnesota Vikings | DL Christian Barmore – Alabama

The Vikings need help on the defensive line and Barmore gives them 6’5”, 310 lb. worth of help. He was named a first-team All American by CBS Sports

1.15 New England Patriots | TE Kyle Pitts – Florida

New England desperately needs playmakers on offense, and Pitts is a WR in a TE’s body. Pitts is a someone Bill Belichick can build the offense around no matter who the QB is next season.

1.16 Arizona Cardinals | DB Jaycee Horn – South Carolina

 

Patrick Peterson is slowing down and Dre Kirkpatrick was beat like a drum. Horn represents need and value at this pick.

1.17 Las Vegas Raiders | LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah – Notre Dame

The Raiders ranked in the bottom third of the league in both pass and run defense. They were weak all over the defense, but linebacker is a major need, and at 18 I believe this is a perfect fit.

1.18 Miami Dolphins | OL Wyatt Davis – Ohio St

Miami uses both first round picks on offense, this one to shore up the offensive line. Davis is an All-American and a powerful blocker who can come in and start from day 1.

1.19 Washington Football Team | WR Rashod Bateman – Minnesota

Terry McLaurin gets a running mate and Washington’s offense gets a lot better. Cam Newton is going to have a lot of fun in DC. 

1.20 Chicago Bears | OL Alex Leatherwood – Alabama

It all starts on the offensive line and Leatherwood has the strength to be a stellar run blocker and the athleticism to block in the passing game. That is 6’6”, 312 pounds of OL help. He also won the Outland Trophy this season as the nation’s best interior lineman and first-team All American.

1.21 Jacksonville Jaguars | OT Jalen Mayfield – Michigan

He has all the tools to be a franchise LT but doesn’t have as many starts as other top OTs growth will be a big factor in his success. Mayfield only started 13 games and all of the at RT. There is a possibility he stays at RT until he shows more growth.

1.22 Indianapolis Colts | QB Kyle Trask – Florida

I almost took Jaylen Waddle here and if he’s available the Colts would have a difficult time passing on him. Trask needs some work but the colts need better play from their QB position and taking a guy to grow as Rivers slowly erodes into oblivion isn’t the worst plan. If Michael Pittman and Parris Campbell can stay healthy Indy might be able to push WR off as a need for now.

1.23 Cleveland Browns | DE Joseph Ossai – Texas

Myles Garrett gets his tag team partner on the edge in Ossai. Ossai is the total package and will benefit from the attention paid to Garrett.

1.24 Tennessee Titans | WR Jaylen Waddle – Alabama

Corey Davis is a FA at the end of the year opening up a nice spot opposite AJ Brown. Waddle Brown and Henry would form an excellent offensive trio of weapons for TanneThrill. Waddle is one of the best receivers in the country but lost most of this year due to an ankle injury. Expect him to be highly drafted anyway.

1.25 Tampa Bay Bucs | OL Rashawn – Northwestern

At 315lbs, Slater is a versatile offensive lineman that can be plugged in on day one and started. He is an aggressive run blocker and will be beneficial to the Bucs line so they have a 2-headed attack and not just passing from Brady.

1.26 Baltimore Ravens | OL Samuel Cosmi – Texas

Here you have the replacement for recently retired Marshal Yanda. The emphasis on the running game means Cosmi is plug and play — and should help pave the way for JK Dobbins for years to come.

1.27 New York Jets | OL Alijah-Vera Tucker – USC

The Jets have holes everywhere, but they get some protection for their new franchise QB Fields. Vera-Tucker has size and athleticism that has him ranked as one of the top offensive lineman in the entire draft.

1.28 Pittsburgh Steelers | RB Najee Harris – Alabama

James Conner is a FA, and the rest of the guys there are JAGs. Harris would come in and give the Steelers a true workhorse back, a Derrick Henry 2.0 who would fit right into the hard nose culture. It would also make Fantasy Twitter have a meltdown.

1.29 New Orleans Saints | WR Terrance Marshall Jr – LSU

Imagine a scenario where Thomas is healthy and is finally paired with another outstanding wideout. If it’s Hill or Winston that take the reigns, Marshall’s ability to beat defenders and get open deep is just the spark Sean Payton‘s offensive will need. It’s a match born in the Bayou. Let’s keep the Louisiana born phenomena home as he becomes a Saint!

1.30 Buffalo Bills | DB Tyson Campbell – Georgia

Buffalo doesn’t have any obvious needs, Campbell can help strengthen an already solid secondary. A big, athletic corner who would be a nice compliment to Tre’Davious White.

1.31 Green Bay Packers | WR Rondale Moore – Purdue

My first thought with this pick was to imitate what the Packers would do and take a QB or RB. The logical choice is to give Aaron Rodgers another weapon and get them a shifty WR to take some of the attention off Davante Adams

1.32 Kansas City Chiefs | LB Zaven Collins – Tulsa

The Chiefs run defense was ranked 21st in 2020. A strong inside linebacker will help the Chiefs in all facets of the defense in the upcoming seasons.
