Fantasy Football Week 17 Streamers: QB, TE, Team Defense

Before moving to Week 17, let’s take a look at how Week 16’s streamers did (Yahoo! scoring, 0.5-point PPR).

Quarterback: Jimmy Garoppolo-15.18 points
Tight End: James O’Shaughnessy-6.9 points
Team Defense: Philadelphia Eagles-16 points

For Week 17, here are my quarterback, tight end and team defense streamers.

Quarterback: Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers vs. Houston Texans

Jimmy Garoppolo emerged from Week 16 with a significant thumb injury, so he’s certainly doubtful for Week 17 against the Houston Texans and perhaps for the rest of the season. So Lance is in line to make his second career start, and right on cue 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has praised his recent work in practice.

In his first start, Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals, Lance threw for 192 yards and had 89 rushing yards on 16 carries. He stepped in when Garoppolo was injured in the previous game, going 9-for-18 for 157 yards and two touchdowns along with 41 rushing yards. Over those two games, he posted 35.96 fantasy points (Yahoo! scoring).

It’s not as great a matchup as you might think in Week 17, since the Houston Texans are in the middle of the pack in fantasy points allowed quarterbacks this season. But they are bad against the run (31st in the league), and that plays well to Lance’s game. They’ve been far better lately, but Houston has still allowed five rushing touchdowns to quarterbacks this season (tied for most in the league).

Be sure to confirm Garoppolo will indeed miss Sunday’s game before going all the way in with Lance as a streamer. But the balance of a safe floor and solid upside makes the rookie signal caller the top pick here for Week 17.

Others To Consider: Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins vs. Tennessee Titans; Justin Fields, Chicago Bears vs. New York Giants (check injury status); Davis Mills, Houston Texans at San Francisco 49ers; Carson Wentz, Indianapolis Colts vs. Las Vegas Raiders; Jared Goff, Detroit Lions at Seattle Seahawks; Mac Jones, New England Patriots vs. Jacksonville Jaguars; Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons at Buffalo Bills

Tight End: Gerald Everett, Seattle Seahawks vs. Detroit Lions

Everett has the Seahawks’ leading receiver in Week 16 against the Chicago Bears, with four catches (on five targets) for 68 yards and a touchdown. He has been a prominent target for Russell Wilson, and it seems better to break it down in a list rather than a conjested word salad.

-60 or more yards in back-to-back games
-A touchdown in two of three before that, and in three of last five
-More than 35 yards and/or a touchdown in six of the last seven, with six targets in the one exception

In Week 17 Everett gets the Detroit Lions, who have allowed the 10th-most fantasy points to tight ends this season (11.2 per game, Yahoo! 0.5-point PPR). They have allowed the fourth-most receiving yards to the position (979) so far this season.

Trying to stream a tight end at this stage of the season is fraught with downside. But Everett is actually a solid option for Week 17, with a good matchup and involvement that isn’t going away.

Others To Consider: Cole Kmet, Chicago Bears vs. New York Giants; James O’Shaughnessy, Jacksonville Jaguars at New England Patriots; C.J. Uzomah, Cincinnati Bengals vs. Kansas City Chiefs; Foster Moreau, Las Vegas Raiders at Indianapolis Colts (check Darren Waller‘s status); Jared Cook, Los Angeles Chargers vs. Denver Broncos; Cameron Brate, Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New York Jets; Mo Alie-Cox, Indianapolis Colts vs. Las Vegas Raiders; Austin Hooper/David Njoku, Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers (Monday night)

Team Defense: Chicago Bears vs. New York Giants

The Bears’ defense has not posted double-digit fantasy points (Yahoo! scoring) since Week 9. But they have nine sacks over the last three games, and the matchup in Week 17 is too good to pass up.

The New York Giants were down to Jake Fromm as their starting quarterback in Week 16, and he was bad enough against the Eagles that Mike Glennon came in. Daniel Jones (neck) is out for the season, so Glennon is likely to get the starting job back. They have scored 10 points or less in three of their last four games, and 13 points or less in five of their last six. In five of their last six (not the same aforementioned five of six in perfect parallel), an opposing defense has posted multiple sacks+takeways against the Giants.

It’s lined up to be a low-scoring game Sunday in Chicago. The Bears defense has a legit chance to post a shutout, and the Giants will be strained to get to double-digits.
