CFL DFS Best Dollar Values DraftKings Week 20
It’s the big 20 as we approach the end of the CFL regular season. But there are still four games to be played this week, with plenty of DFS viable players. As always, I attempt to provide the best value plays on the DraftKings platform.
Quarterback
Tre Ford (EDM) $6,500 vs BC
Last week, I made a call on a $6,500 QB who was announced as a starter after prices were set. Well, here in Week 20, that same scenario is repeating itself. Edmonton announced that their starting QB is out with an injury. That gives Tre Ford the chance to be under center for the Elks for their regular-season finale. The CFL rookie started 2 games earlier this year, but was knocked out of his 2nd game early with an injury. So we really only have one game of data to go off of for Ford.
Looking at that game, we can see that Ford only completed 15 passes for 159 yards. However, his true value comes on the ground as Ford also produced 61 rushing yards in that contest. And while he has not yet found the end zone though his ground game, Ford still has the rushing touchdown upside.
This week I decided to only select one QB in this section. For all of the other 7 teams playing, their starting quarterbacks are set and they are priced accordingly. So there is no real value edge to be gained, expect for selecting Ford at QB. While Ford is certainly a cash game lock for his rushing floor, I believe he also has enough upside to be playable in GPP or tournament contests at $6,500.
Running Back
A.J. Ouellette (TOR) $8,400 @ MTL
In Week 20, the starting RB pricing is as widespread as it has been at any point this season. Starting running backs are as expensive as $11,800 and as cheap as $3,100. That is quite the range of costs. A.J. Ouellette ends up in a preferred price point. And his pass-game usage also gives him a solid floor. And like last week, if Ouellette can find the end zone, then his ceiling is great for DFS.
Shaq Cooper (SSK) $3,700 vs CGY
One of the best values on the slate is arguably Saskatchewan RB Shaq Cooper. With other injuries to the Roughriders backfield, the team was forced to make the mid-season signing. Since joined the team, Cooper has not had much room to produce with only 5 carries in a Week 18 loss. But coming off of the bye week, we shall see if Cooper can create some momentum. The good news for Cooper’s value is his opponent this week. The Calgary defense has surrendered the 3rd most fantasy points per game to running backs this season. It what is expected to be a run-heavy Saskatchewan offense, look for Cooper to lead the way.
Wide Receiver
Dominique Rhymes (BC) $11,400 @ EDM
Last week, I featured Dominique Rhymes not as a stack for his own QB, but as a stacking option with his opponent’s signal caller. I wrote about the theory behind game stacking, and it applies to Rhymes once again. For those following my advice and selecting Tre Ford at QB, I also advice placing Rhymes in the lineup. If my prediction about Ford come true, he will put points on the board for Edmonton. If that is the case, it will force the BC Lions into a more pass-happy approach. Considering that Ford only costs $6,500, it is easy to stack him alongside Rhymes, all while being able to play other elite options in the same lineup.
Reggie Begelton (CGY) $9,400 @ SSK

This is also a repeat of last week’s article. But after recommending both Reggie Begelton and Dominique Rhymes, I am going back to the well with them. Neither pass-catcher spiked last week as expected, but both put up double-digit fantasy points. Going after Begelton provides a high ceiling, but also with a safe floor. He may be the best investment in the $9K range.
Derel Walker (EDM) $7,800 vs BC
If you are looking for a same-team WR stack to go alongside QB Tre Ford, then Derel Walker would be my suggestion. As mentioned in the QB section, Ford only has one full CFL under his belt. But in that contest, Walker led Edmonton in targets with 8. If Ford found his favorite receiver in the form of Walker, then I think he will be one of the better WR options available for under $8K.
Justin Hardy (OTT) $5,200 vs HAM
Well, it only took one week for Justin Hardy to go from a Deep Dive up to the main WR section. But here we are as DraftKings has simply switched the first two digits of Hardy’s price going from $2,500 to $5,200. And while that cost increase is significant, he still remains a value play. Ottawa will be facing Hamilton’s defense which has allowed the most fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers.
Deep Dive
Tyson Philpot (MTL) $3,600 vs TOR
In recent weeks, Tyson Philpot has earned a bigger role in the Montreal offense. It got to the point where he actually led the Alouettes in targets (10) during their most recent matchup. In that contest, none of Philpot’s teammates had more than 5 targets each. However, his DraftKings price has not risen accordingly. Philpot still comes at quite the value with a $3,600 price tag. That makes him a perfect candidate for the deep dive range.
Defense
Calgary Stampeders $4,600 @SSK
Earlier this week, Saskatchewan announced that they were making a change at QB. One element I always like to target for DFS defenses is QB uncertainty. I’m not sure this swap makes the Roughriders a better team at all. And if it fails, then this offense could really crumble. Playing Calgary’s defense gives access to take advantage of this situation. Regardless of who is under center, the Saskatchewan offensive line has surrendered the most sacks in the CFL this season. And with a less established QB out there, maybe those sacks turn into turnovers rather quickly.
Ottawa RedBlacks $3,600 @ HAM
Looking at the league-wide stats the Hamilton offense has a staggering turnover rate. They are the only team in the CFL this season to have over 2 turnovers per game. The difference making production at defense in DFS contests usually comes curtsey of scoring. So targeting the opposing offense that often fails to protect the football is a good play most of the time. Considering that the RedBlacks are on the road, it may not be that surprising that they are priced below $4K. But as a result, I think they represent a great value play.
