Ultimate Rookie Report Week 4

This week there were some eye popping numbers across the NFL. It was like watching the most realistic version of Madden I’ve ever seen. The Miami Dolphins put up SEVENTY POINTS. There hasn’t been a score like that (non-Madden) since 1966! These crazy numbers did trickle down to a couple of our rooks, so let’s get on with the show, shall we?

Rankings are fantasy points related.

5. Marvin Mims Jr (16.6)

The first player from the wacky 70-20 game on the list is Marvin Mims. Somehow, while the Dolphins “didn’t” run the score up, Mims caught three balls for 73 yards. He also ran a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown in garbage time. Points are points and we don’t care when they get them. Mims has had two solid weeks in a row.

4. CJ Stroud (20.6)

CJ Stroud has quietly been a decent quarterback on a terrible team. Even in a week where he didn’t have to do a whole lot against their AFC South rival Jacksonville, Stroud went 20/30 for 280 and 2 touchdowns. Currently, Stroud is the best rookie QB and the 12th best QB in all of fantasy. He’s beating QB stalwarts like Trevor Lawrence, Dak Prescott and Justin Fields.

3. Sam LaPorta (22.4)

I had a good feeling about Sam LaPorta this year and I just didn’t pull the trigger. LaPorta is on a Detroit Lions team that loves throwing the ball. This week Sam reeled in 8 of 11 targets for 84 yards and a touchdown. After the big week, he is currently the second best tight end in fantasy.

2. Tank Dell (25.5)

Going along with CJ Stroud and the team that’s quietly productive in fantasy is CJ’s good buddy Tank Dell. Nobody knows he’s the 13th best receiver in fantasy. He is currently beating second round fantasy picks CeeDee Lamb, DeVonta Smith, and AJ Brown and first rounder Ja’Marr Chase (Chase is currently 25th. He was projected #2 overall. Woof). This week Dell caught 5 balls for 145 yards and a touchdown. He is getting the most targets on a team that is putting up fantasy points. Grab him if you can.

1. De’von Achane (51.3)

Mike McDaniel dusted off his old nintendo controller and pressed up up down down left right left right B A start before the game this week and turned off Denver’s ability to tackle. Seeing that a team scored 70 points in a single game made my brain melt. Literally McDaniel could do no wrong. De’Von Achane was a major reason for the high score. He led all players in fantasy points after having 18 rushes for a total of 203 yards and 2 touchdowns and caught 4 passes for 30 yards and another 2 touchdowns. He is an obvious grab off the waiver wire this week but I wouldn’t start him just yet. In the first two games he had a total of 2 touches. I think this week was the perfect storm of a plan coming together against a team that is absolutely terrible. It is undeniable that the potential is ridiculous though, so it’s better to have him than let another manager get a hold of him.

Just a quick shout out to Jake Moody. He is currently tied with Jake Elliot for the best fantasy kicker in the league. Unfortunately for him, we have quite a class this year. 12 points a week would have been on the fringe of the  list last year but the lowest score we’ve had this year is Marvin Mims 16.6 and that was this week!
