Cut or Keep: Has Gallup’s role disappeared in Dallas?

Two names on the list this week to keep are two names that I’ve talked about in previous versions of this article, but they may have been dropped because of injury or lackluster performances.

The fortunes of those two players may have changed for the better in the last few weeks.

Michael Wilson, WR (ARI)

It may be ugly for Wilson and the Cardinals’ offense Sunday against the Browns with Clayton Tune starting, but better days are expected to come.

Quarterback Kyler Murray could return from injury as early as Week 10 and could unlock some big plays for Wilson and the offense as a whole.

Wilson has gained at least 50 receiving yards in five of his past seven games, according to PFF. His 15.2 average depth of target is Top 5 among receivers who qualify.

With Murray at quarterback playing at the level he was before his injury, Wilson could be a consistent fantasy starter over the rest of the season.

Roschon Johnson, RB (CHI)

Johnson had missed the previous two games with a concussion before returning in Week 8. D’Onta Foreman handled the first two drives before Johnson came in for the third drive.

Foreman and Johnson also split snaps with Darrynton Evans. It’s likely Johnson was limited after missing time.

When Johnson has played, he’s been productive with the opportunities he’s had. Foreman could go back to being inactive if and when Khalil Herbert and Johnson are healthy, similar to the beginning of the season.

Johnson could win the starting job in the next few weeks if he stays healthy.

Jeff Wilson, RB (MIA)

Wilson led the team in rushing for most of last week’s game, but barring any injury to a Dolphins’ running back other than Wilson in Week 9, his role is expected to be reduced soon.

In Week 8, Wilson had five carries for 23 yards and two receptions for 14 yards. Wilson was still behind Raheem Mostert on the depth chart and battling with Salvon Ahmed for the clear No. 2 RB role on the team.

Miami plays the Chiefs in Week 9 and has a bye in Week 10. Following the bye, electric rookie De’Von Achane is expected to return from I.R. and take some snaps away from Wilson and Ahmed. When Achane returns, Wilson will be third on the depth chart at best.

It’ll be tough to cut Wilson in deep leagues, but in shallower leagues, he can be dropped.

Michael Gallup, WR (DAL)

The Dallas Cowboys scored 43 points, and Dak Prescott threw for 304 yards and four touchdowns, and the success had little to do with Gallup.

Second-year receiver Jalen Tolbert got a boost in playing time, which corresponded with Gallup’s decline. Gallup played 33 of a possible 56 snaps, while Tolbert played 29. Gallup was third in snaps behind Brandin Cooks (40) and Ceedee Lamb (53).

Gallup had two catches for 20 yards. He’s been under 25 yards receiving in five of seven games this season and hasn’t caught a touchdown.

Lamb has elevated his production in the last two weeks, while Cooks and Jake Ferguson seem to be the second and third targets for Prescott. If the trend continues, Gallup could be phased completely out of the offense.
