Is there anyone out there who disagrees on Christian McCaffrey being the unquestionable No.1 pick for the 2020 fantasy draft?
No one? Sure.
He is not good only for himself, he is the engine pulling results for so many fantasy teams. Take Yahoo fantasy leagues, for example, 20.75% of their championship-winning teams had McCaffrey on their roster. 93.44% of teams with McCaffrey on their roster made the playoffs.
It would be boring if it wasn’t so exciting. Double exciting, really, for both fantasy and real-life football. While the 2020 fantasy draft is still several months ahead, the AFC–NFC Pro Bowl coming up on Jan 26, 2020, and the atmosphere is heating up. As you all know, McCaffrey was named last December to represent Carolina, together with linebacker Luke Kuechly. After Kuechly unexpectedly announced his retirement on Jan 14, Christian was left alone to uphold the Panthers’ colors in the NFL all-star game.
If you are into DFS, this is a swell opportunity. Everyone is impatiently waiting to see what the Panthers’ running back, the best fantasy football player of 2019, is going to achieve in Orlando. His fourth season, the final one of his present contract, with the Carolina team looks more than promising for the 23-year old star.
As for fantasy, McCaffrey’s dazzling 448.4 points in 2019, an average of 29.9 points per game, was nine points better per game than the RB2, Dalvin Cook. And nearly two points per game better than the No. 2 overall scorer, Lamar Jackson. So, McCaffrey being the object of desire for any 2020 fantasy roster is really a no brainer. Everybody wants him. He is is the third running back in history to get 1,000 receiving and 1,000 rushing yards in a single season. Now he will be able to add a Pro Bowl to his record too.
“A workhorse”, “absurd workload”, have been associated with McCaffrey by enthusiastic fantasy football commentators when listing the astounding numbers of his 2019 season. The point is that this hyper-productivity is what makes him such a valuable asset for fantasy rosters. So, what are the chances that 2020 turns out to be as good?
The answer perhaps lies in his “Bruce Lee philosophy”. For one so young, Christian is unbelievably focused. The inspiration he draws upon comes from his worship of the late martial art champion. Another thing he got from his dad Ed, a triple Pro Bowl winner in his own NFL career of thirteen years. “Be like water making its way through cracks”, is a favorite Bruce Lee quotation that McCaffrey recently repeated to USA Today. “Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves”. Martial arts for the body, wise saying for the brain. Rest assured, we have seen nothing yet of Christian McCaffrey!
