Blind Resumes: Who’s Your QB?
The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament has started and, per usual, it has not disappointed. One of the best moments before the tournament starts are blind resume segments. Networks post records and stats of teams without revealing their identity. Commentators then choose which team they believe deserves an invitation to the big dance.
The point of these segments?
It removes all bias and forces the audience to look at facts. An exercise that will be utilized today.
Let’s do some role playing, okay? You’re an NFL GM and you have to find a quarterback for next season. You plan on drafting a QB but there aren’t any day one starters this year. You need to sign a veteran to start while the pup gets acclimated to the NFL. You have enough money to sign one of the four quarterbacks below.
Got it?
QB 1
Career Stats: 374/630 59.4 cmp%, 4100 yds, 30TD, 15INT, 86 rsh yards, 84.6 rating, and a 5-13 starting record.
2016 Stats: 10/11 90.9 cmp%, 75 yds, 1TD, 0INT, 0 rsh yards, and a 125.4 rating.
QB 2
Career Stats: 1,011/1,692 59.8 cmp%, 12,271 yds, 72TD, 30INT, 2,300 rsh yards, 88.9 rating, and a 28-30 starting record.
2016 Stats: 196/331 59.2 cmp%, 2,241 yds, 16TD, 4INT, 468 rsh yards, and a 90.7 rating.
QB 3

2016 Stats: 81/137 59.1 cmp%, 1,059 yds, 4TD, 5INT, 24 rsh yards, and a 78.1 rating.
QB 4
Career Stats: 1,254/2,121 59.1 cmp%, 14,242 yds, 79TD, 69INT, 952 rsh yards, 78.2 rating, and a 18-42 starting record.
2016 Stats: 90/165 54.5 cmp%, 1,100 yds, 6TD, 6INT, 21 rsh yards, and a 72.3 rating.
Thought about it?
Okay, Who ya got?
Congratulations! You have your quarterback for the 2017 season, let’s pull back the curtain and see who’s your starter.
QB 1: You’ve chosen Mike Glennon, the mediocre quarterback the Bears just gave a
3 year, $45 million deal with $18.5 million guaranteed. Just further proof that one just has to look the part without actually doing anything significant to get paid. Seriously, is he any better than Jay Cutler?
QB 2: You’ve chosen Colin Kaepernick, the only quarterback in this bunch to play in a Super Bowl. Kap has been blackballed because he actually had the nerve to exercise his rights. (More on that here.) Kap isn’t wasting this free time though, he’s putting his money where his mouth is.

What an awful human being, I wouldn’t want him in my locker room either.
QB 3: You’ve chosen Jay Cutler, the QB on this list who was replaced by MIKE GLENNON. Cutler has yet to find a new home but I highly doubt he’ll start the NFL season sitting at home. Cutler has his flaws but the last time I checked there’s a cannon still attached to his shoulder. That will be more than enough to entice a team to sign him after the draft is over.
QB 4: You’ve chosen Josh McCown, the Jets new starter. McCown is 37 and throughout his entire career only two of his teams finished over .500. The 2008 Panthers and 2012 Bears. The coincidence? He didn’t take a snap for either of those teams during those years. You better draft that young QB our you’re fired my friend.

Think about it, a 37 year old journeyman who hasn’t finished over .500 as a starter was signed before a 29 year old who was one play away from winning the Super Bowl.
