Daily Fantasy: NFL DraftKings Preseason Week 4 Lineup Advice (9/1/16)
I never thought I’d be sad to see the preseason go, but with the killing I’ve been making on preseason DFS, that’s exactly the feeling I have. I’m sure it will all go away once Week 1 kicks off, but for now, I’m going to miss it. Tonight’s top plays will be about volume more than anything. If they are expected to play a lot in the final game, they’ll be highly ranked in my book…
NFL DFS DraftKings Value Top Plays for Preseason Week 4
Quarterbacks
Paxton Lynch (DEN) @ ARI
Now that Trevor Siemian has been named the starter and Mark Sanchez will likely be cut or traded, Lynch will likely play this entire game, and that alone is enough to make him the top QB on Thursday night.
Jameill Showers (DAL) vs HOU
By virtue of “last man standing”, Showers will likely play this entire game. The Cowboys have seen enough of newly named starter Dak Prescott that he will likely sit this one out, and, of course, Tony Romo is out until at least Week 4, leaving Showers as the only QB the Cowboys have.
Running Backs
DailyFantasyNerd Top Play of the Day: RB Bishop Sankey (TEN) @ MIA
I was torn on whether I should play David Cobb or Sankey, but the Titans threw me a bone and cut Cobb, leaving Sankey to carry the load in the final game. DeMarco Murray won’t see the field and Derrick Henry will likely to sit as well. It’ll be the Sankey show in Miami and I’m in line to buy my ticket. He has had a pretty good preseason and will look to continue his impressive play against a Dolphins defense that hasn’t shown well thus far giving up 4.4 yards per carry to opposing RBs.
Tyler Gaffney (NE) @ NYG
Gaffney will likely end up as LaGarrette Blount’s direct backup, but he has played well enough to end up on the Patriots 53-man roster. With Blount and James White likely to sit and Dion Lewis out 8-10 weeks, Gaffney is the clear-cut first and second down RB in this offense and should see a ton of snaps in this one.
Daniel Thomas (MIA) vs TEN
Much like my decision on Sankey vs Cobb, I was similarly torn between Thomas and Isaiah Pead, but Pead suffered a hamstring injury and will be out for two weeks. Neither Arian Foster nor Jay Ajayi figure to play in this one, leaving Thomas the backfield virtually all to himself.

Kenneth Farrow (SD) vs SF
As is the case with a lot of my choices for Week 4, it’s more about opportunity than it is talent. Melvin Gordan and Danny Woodhead are locked in as No. 1 and No. 2 on the depth chart and will likely see little, if any, time on the field. Couple that with the news of Branden Oliver‘s season-ending knee injury and Dreamius Smith’s Tuesday release, Farrow will have the backfield to himself. In the words of Matthew Berry, “You don’t have to be the prettiest girl at the bar, sometimes you just have to be the only girl at the bar.”
Wide Receivers
Taylor Gabriel (CLE) vs CHI
Previous to the news that the Redskins/Bucs game was rescheduled a day earlier and will not count for any of the DK Thursday night contests, I had two Redskins listed for my WRs. After the news, I had to dig deep to find some others I liked. Much like all the others on this list, Gabriel will get a ton of snaps based solely on the fact that he is all they have. Josh Gordon, Corey Coleman, and Terrelle Pryor are locked in as the top three options, so Gabriel should get some good run in this game. He is pushing Andrew Hawkins for a starting spot, so he will be motivated to perform.
Dorial Green-Beckham (PHI) vs NYJ
Don’t let the “O” next to his name on DK fool you. DGB is going to play and play a ton. He has already looked better in this offense than he did in Tennesee, and while that’s not saying much, he has all the talent in the world if he can just put it together.
Jay Lee (BUF) @ DET
Going into this weekend Jay Lee is fighting for a roster spot, his main competition was Jeremy Kerley and Andre Roberts, but Kerley was traded to the 49ers earlier this week and Roberts has dealt with drops his entire career, leaving Lee with a good chance to make the roster. He will be motivated and will get a ton of snaps, just what you are looking for in preseason DFS.
Eli Rogers (PIT) @ CAR
If you have listened to my podcast or read any of my season-long fantasy articles you’ll know that I was all-in on Sammy Coates — but it looks like the Steelers aren’t. Rogers has been starting in the slot and will likely be the Steelers No. 3 receiver going into the season. Because the No. 3 WR in Pittsburg is basically a starter, they may opt to rest Rogers, in which case I like Coates, but as it stands now I think Rogers gets at least one half of football this Thursday.
Tight Ends
A.J. Derby (NE) @ NYG
He is literally the only tight end I could find that I even remotely liked. If anyone sees one that I’m missing, let me know.
Defense
Houston Texans @ Dallas Cowboys
The depth behind the Cowboys skill players is not good. Dak Prescott won’t play, leaving the third string QB to play the whole game, no Dez Bryant, no Ezekiel Elliot, and no Jason Witten, even the Texans’ backups should have no problem here.
Philadelphia Eagles vs New York Jets
Much like Dallas, the Jets aren’t deep on offense. Geno Smith and Christian Hackenberg have looked awful thus far, the WRs behind Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker are nothing to write home about, and they don’t have much behind Matt Forte and Bilal Powell either. This is more about the bad Jets offense than it is about the Eagles defense.
