DFS CFL Best Player Values Draft Kings Week 10

We are back. After a short hiatus, the CFL Daily Fantasy Sports series has returned for Week 10. There have been several weeks in a row of unusual scheduling and that is once again the case here. In Week 10, there is a Wednesday Night football game (10/06) but the typical Draft Kings main slate is somewhat normal. There are four games for the main slate, one on Friday (10/08), one on Saturday (10/09), and two matches on Monday (10/11). Here are the best DFS values for the Week 10 main slate.

Quarterback

Caleb Evans (OTT) $6,500 @ MTL

This is a massive risk/reward play. As mentioned during the intro paragraph, there is a CFL game on Wednesday, before the DraftKings prices were set. Ottawa and Toronto will each play two games during Week 10, head-to-head on October 6th and then again on October 11th against different opponents. Those games on Monday the 11th, will count towards the DraftKings main slate.

The risk is if Caleb Evans plays poorly against Toronto, he may not start the game against Montreal. However, at only $6,500 he is underpriced if he does play in both games. During Week 9, Evans made his CFL debut and got the win for the RedBlacks. He went 15-of-22 passing 191 yards and 3 touchdowns as Ottawa won 34-24 against Edmonton. Evans also led the RedBlacks in rushing with 59yards on the ground. If he can repeat that type of performance against Montreal on Monday, he will be a main slate winner at his price. If nothing else, that Week 9 performance should buy him at least 2 starts since the QB play has been awful in Ottawa this year.

I am only putting one QB in this section because nothing else on the slate comes close to the value of Caleb Evans.

Running Back

James Wilder Jr. (EDM) $9,100 @ WPG

Andrew Harris (WPG) $8,800 vs EDM

My two favorite RB plays this week are the two starters in the Edmonton-Winnipeg game and it all has to do with game script. First off, both backs rarely come off the field; they are true workhorses playing all downs. Wilder and Harris can both gain yards on the ground and through the air. At least, Andrew Harris has a history of it with seven seasons of 50+ receptions in his career. This year, only 9 catches for Harris, but he has been dealing with injuries. An with the great QB play Winnipeg has experienced, there has been less of a need to dump down. However, in his 5 starts, Harris has received an average of 17.2 carries per game. As the favorites, the Blue Bombers will likely lean on Harris to run the ball late in the game.

On the opposite side, James Wilder would fit nicely into a game script where Edmonton is trailing. So far the season, Wilder leads all running backs with 25 receptions. That puts him 3rd on the Elks, and only 9 catches behind the team leader. Against the dangerous Winnipeg defensive line, I expect a lot of dump-offs for Wilder during this game. In a PPR format like DraftKings, that is gold.

Wide Receiver

Bralon Addison (HAM) $8,900 vs TOR

Before Week 9, Bralon Addison had not played in a regular-season CFL game in almost two years. Coming off an injury to start the season, Addison showed no rush by producing 16 fantasy points on 9 targets. With that type of usage right away, clearly, Hamilton has made it a priority to get Addison the ball. He seems like a safe bet to once again lead the team in targets, receptions and receiving yards during Week 10.

Jake Wieneke (MTL) $7,300 vs OTT

Jake Wieneke has been very productive this season and continues to be one of the best values on DraftKings. Among all wide receivers on the Week 10 main slate, Wieneke is first in fantasy points per game with 19. Next on that list among active players is another Montreal WR, Eugene Lewis with 17.2 fantasy points per game. However, Lewis is over 2K$ more than Wieneke. Every week, Wieneke is one of the best CFL DFS values.

Nic Demski (WPG) $6,600 vs EDM

During Week 10, Winnipeg will be without their team leader in targets, receptions, and receiving yards. That could mean more opportunity for Nic Demski who is already 2nd on the Blue Bombers in receiving yards, despite missing 2 games. Demski doubles as a possession-type receiver on key 3rd downs but also has a great run after the catch ability. Both roles should lead to a productive outing for Demski.

R.J. Harris (OTT) $6,400 @ MTL

Even though he was 2nd on the team in targets, R.J. Harris still lead Ottawa in receiving yards during Caleb Evans’s debut at QB. For anyone paying down at QB and using Evans, there are several good stacking options. There is Ryan Davis at $5,400 who lead the RedBlacks in targets last week. However, I prefer Harris for 1K$ more because of his big-play ability and higher fantasy ceiling.

Deep Dive

RB – Tim Flanders (OTT) $3,400 @ MTL

Purely from an opportunity standpoint, Tim Flanders provides great value. This season Flanders has received double-digit carries in all but one game and has caught a pass in every contest. Last week, he scored a touchdown on a pass from Caleb Evans, showing quick chemistry with the new QB. Flanders would be perfect to play in a 1 RB lineup where you could overload on higher-priced wide receivers.

WR – Steven Dunbar Jr. (HAM) $3,000 vs TOR

The big fear for Steven Dunbar was what would happen to his production once the other Hamilton receivers were healthy. Well, last game we got an answer as Dunbar produced 3 receptions for 75 yards. He likely won’t get massive volume, but his massive frame (at least for a Tiger-Cats WR) could lead to big production. Dunbar gives Hamilton a true jump-ball WR that can be a Red-Zone threat. With the speedy slot receivers getting all the attention from Hamilton’s opponents, look for Dunbar to be in 1-on-1 situations.

Defense

Hamilton Tiger-Cats $5,300 vs TOR

The Hamilton defense is on a roll right now with multiple sacks and multiple interceptions in 3 of the last 5 games. That stretch includes a 21-point fantasy performance against Toronto. In Week 10, the Tiger-Cats will once again host the Argonauts. Only this time Toronto will be coming off of another game only 5 days before. If the Hamilton defensive line can control the Argonauts offensive line, it may be a long Monday for whichever QB is playing.

Ottawa RedBlacks $3,300 @ MTL

My two favorite defenses are the two most expensive on the Week 10 slate. While I believe they are both worth the price, there is also a cheap option that could be viable. One element I like to target with fantasy defenses is uncertainty at QB. Yes, Vernon Adams has played very well this year, he also suffered an ankle injury last week. While he was able to return in the second half and win the game in OT, it is unknown how much the injury will limit Adams in Week 10. Like all of the Ottawa players I have suggested in this article, High-Risk, High-Reward.
