Top Plays
Clayton Kershaw
Kershaw is the clear top option and you should pay for him in your cash games. Instead of telling you why Kershaw is good, I’m going to spend time on some tournament pitchers and SP2s.
Noah Syndergaard
Syndergaard is the tournament pivot from Kershaw. He was electric in his first start, punching out nine batters in seven innings. Syndergaard will play in pitcher-friendly Marlins Park. While the Marlins have a lot of lefties in their lineup, the overall lineup doesn’t scare me. Syndergaard will have strikeout upside and is more than $2,000 cheaper than Kershaw on DraftKings.
Julio Teheran
Teheran will face the Padres in Turner Field. I don’t love the price of Teheran, but I do like the matchup and the ballpark. He’s currently tied for the second largest favorite on the slate and the third lowest OTT (see pitcher chart). Teheran is an early favorite to be my SP2 on DraftKings.
Mike Trout
Trout is the clear top hitter. He’ll have the platoon advantage and has the second highest home run projection on the slate. I think you can fit him and Kershaw in the lineup since we should see some value on such a large slate.
Curtis Granderson
The Mets are priced as if they are facing Adam Conley, but he’s been replaced by Edinson Volquez. For that reason Granderson and lefties like Lucas Duda and Jay Bruce are now underpriced. Granderson is my favorite of the three because of his spot in the order, but I’m not against rostering all three, even in cash games.
Travis Jankowski
Since we’re paying so much for Kershaw and Trout, we need to save somewhere. Jankowski should hit second in the order and will have the platoon advantage. Teheran is fairly easy to run on, and Jankowski has speed to burn. For his cheap price, a hit, a steal and a run scored would exceed value.
Notes
A lot of people will try to pair Kershaw with a sub-7K pitcher on Friday. Adam Conley was who I was considering, but he’s been scratched from his start.
Many factors can change between the time I write this article and the time lineups lock. I’ll do my best to update the article, so checking back frequently is encouraged. You can also ask questions on Twitter @fantasbeast15. I’ll do my best to get to all of them!
