MLB DFS Pitcher Chart & Lineup Advice – 7/17/2017

The pitcher chart is located under my top plays!
Top Plays
Lance McCullers
McCullers is the most expensive pitcher on Monday evening, but he’s also the best pitcher on the main slate. He is the largest favorite, has the lowest OTT, and has the highest strikeout rate. He’s priced at $11,500 on DraftKings which is high, but not unreasonable. The Mariners are in the middle of the pack in both strikeout percentage and wRC+ against righties. It’s not the best matchup for McCullers, but it’s not a scary matchup either. Considering the other options on the slate, McCullers looks like the safest option for cash games.
Jon Lester
Lester is the next best option on the main slate. He has the second lowest OTT and is a fairly decent favorite. After his blow up start against the Mets, I’m hoping enough people will be off of him in this matchup to lower his ownership in tournaments. I don’t think I’ll be paying for Lester in cash games since the Braves are an underrated offense, but in tournaments, he’s a solid pivot from McCullers to save salary.
Jake Odorizzi
Odorizzi is in an interesting matchup against the Athletics. The A’s strike out 25.8% of the time, but they’re in the top 10 in wRC+ against righties. I like Odorizzi’s upside, especially at his cheap price, but he hasn’t had the best results over his last few starts. I’m strongly considering Odorizzi for tournaments, and his value may be too good to pass up in cash games given the other options on the slate.
Coors Bats
It’s a Coors Field day and it looks like we’ll have enough money to pay up for quite a few of the bats we want. Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon are the top two bats from this game but both are priced up. I’m more likely to pay up for Arenado than Blackmon due to the other options at the positions. If you didn’t notice, Carlos Gonzalez is priced at just $3,000 on DraftKings. If you’re paying up for McCullers, Gonzalez is an absolute lock. Trevor Story is also a near lock at $3,700. Both have had tough seasons, but I’m still going to play them when they’re this cheap. Wil Myers is the only Padre I’m really interested in, and even Myers will only make my tournament lineups. You can consider Manuel Margot or Jose Pirela if they are leading off, but I’ll likely be going in a different direction.
Anthony Rizzo/Kyle Schwarber
Rizzo and Schwarber are the reasons I’m not interested in Padres bats. I’d much rather play Rizzo against Julio Teheran than play Myers against German Marquez. The same goes for playing Schwarber over Margot or Pirela. Teheran struggles against lefties and it’s a good park for lefties. Rizzo is the top overall option, even higher than Arenado and Blackmon. If Schwarber hits higher than 6th, he’s a lock in cash games. If he hits 6th, he’s a great tournament play, and a fringe cash game play.
Notes
If you’re playing the all-day slate, Stephen Strasburg is a top play in both cash games and tournaments.
