MLB DFS Pitcher Chart & Lineup Advice – 8/1/2017

The pitcher chart is located under my top plays!
Top Plays
Max Scherzer
Scherzer is the highest priced option, but is also the top option on the day. He’ll face the Marlins in Marlins Park. He has the lowest OTT on the slate and is the second largest favorite. The Marlins are a solid offense, but with the park upgrade for Scherzer, I’m not too worried about him giving up a ton of runs. I’m leaning toward paying up for Scherzer in cash games even on a Coors slate. On a fifteen game slate, there is usually enough value to make a high priced pitcher work.
Jimmy Nelson
Nelson faces the Cardinals in Miller Park. I was surprised to see Nelson is favored in this game with Carlos Martinez on the other side of the matchup. Seeing Nelson as the favorite makes me like him a bit more since I was ready to plug him into lineups as an underdog. Nelson pitches well at home and averaged 32.5 DK points per game in his last three home games. At just $7,800, Nelson makes a great SP2 on DraftKings for both cash games and tournaments.
Jose Berrios
Berrios is another SP2 option in the same price range as Jimmy Nelson. He gets a park upgrade and travels to the National League to face the Padres in Petco Park. Berrios has been inconsistent this season, leading me to prefer him in tournaments, but I’m at least considering him for cash games. The Padres strike out at the highest rate in the league against righties and have the fifth worst wRC+. Berrios provides a ton of upside in this matchup if he can keep the Padres off the scoreboard.
Robinson Cano/Nelson Cruz/Mariners
The Mariners seem to be priced as if they are playing Yu Darvish. Darvish was traded to the Dodgers, and Nick Martinez will fill in, leaving most of the Mariners bats underpriced. Martinez has given up 2.03 HR/9 so far this year and owns a 5.24 SIERA. With the discount, Cano and Cruz are both locks in my cash game lineup. Danny Valencia, Jean Segura, and Kyle Seager are also in consideration for cash games and make fantastic tournament plays as part of a Mariners stack.
Yoenis Cespedes
Cespedes will face Jeff Hoffman in Coors Field. It’s a great ballpark and a solid matchup for Cespedes, but his price is the most intriguing. For some reason, DraftKings has priced up all of the Mets except Cespedes. Jay Bruce, Neil Walker, Asdrubal Cabrera, and Wilmer Flores all saw their price jump by $1,000 or more, but Cespedes only saw a $400 increase. He’s basically a free square today, but one you should choose in cash games.
Notes
Carlos Martinez seems broken, but he’s also way too cheap. I love him for tournaments against the strikeout-prone Brewers.
Jonathan Lucroy is also a free square at $2,900, assuming he’s in the lineup.
Tim Beckham is a solid punt at shortstop facing Ian Kennedy for $2,500.
