DFS NBA FanDuel Starting 5 Lineup Advice 1/2/18

Well, for those of you that belong to any of the DFS Facebook groups I admin at, you already know that last night was not one of my better nights. I went to the Kyle Kuzma well one too many times, I ignored the spreadsheet calling out Andrew Wiggins as one of the top value plays and I talked myself into playing Karl-Anthony Towns even though I normally avoid him at all costs.

No sense crying over spilled milk. On to the next day. Before I jump into the advice for today, I just wanted to mention a few of the things we have coming up at GoingFor2.com in the New Year.

Before I jump into the advice for today, I just wanted to mention a few of the things we have coming up at GoingFor2.com in the New Year in case you missed it from my last post…

  4. Expanding our partnership with our Radio affiliates, Momentum Shift. More guest appearances from the radio personalities from the shows you love, like The Redzone, The Real Deal, and Tha Study Hall.

Now onto today’s slate…

Guards

Normally I like to target the games with the highest over/under on the slate, unfortunately, we don’t have much to work with. Only one of the five games has an over/under higher than 206 (Blazers/Cavs line had not been released at the time of this article).

Fortunately, The Hawks/Suns game has a 218 O/U and only a 1.5 point spread and gives us a few good options to get some exposure to that game.

Devin Booker $12,500 vs ATL

Booker returned from injury and picked up right where he left off. In the three games since being back, he has two 40-plus FD point games with a 36 point game sandwiched in between. His usage rate is up over his season average of 30 percent, he has assisted or scored on a whopping 38 percent of possesions over the last three games. That is Russell Westbrook and James Harden level usage rates. I don’t see anything changing for this game.

Shabazz Napier $11,000 @ CLE Damian Lillard due back.

His days as a “free square” are officially over. No longer can we just plug in his $9,500 salary and build up from there, his price has risen to that of the mid-tier stars with Damian Lillard still out and his performances over the last few games. However, I think he is still useable on this slate in a game against the Cavs who give up 45.5 FanDuel points to point guards, and the leagues worst statistical defender last year, point guard Isaiah Thomas, is set to make his return tonight. Yes, please.

Dennis Schroder $12,500 @ PHO

On the other side of that game, we have PG Dennis Schroder who has four straight games of 36 FanDuel points or more, including a 48.1 explosion against the Mavericks. The pace of this game should allow him to flirt with 40 FanDuel points tonight.

Others to consider: Tyreke Evans $13,000

Forwards

I would love to fit in LeBron James, but I just don’t see a viable way to fit him in and have a decent roster. Good luck getting the right $8,000 player to get you 30 FanDuel points so that you can fit in James.

Blake Griffin $13,000 vs MEM

Griffin is already back to game-shape after only two games back from his long absence scoring 39.2 and 47.4 FanDuel points respectively. The Grizzlies pose a significant challenge for Griffin as one of the better defensive teams, however, his usage rate and the Clippers lack of scoring options will ensure Griffin gets 40-plus again tonight.

Marquese Chriss $10,500 vs ATL

Chriss is the only sub-11k player on today’ slate that I’m interested in. Unless someone gets ruled out tonight, this slate doesn’t have a ton of value, thus the reason I’m fading LeBron James. Foul trouble is Chriss’ biggest detractor to his fantasy prospects, but, again, he is all there is…

Others to consider: LeBron James $16,000 (if you can fit him), Taurean Prince $11,000, Michael Beasley $10,500

Center

Jusuf Nurkic $11,500 @ CLE

With Damian Lillard out over the last few games, Nurkic has found his offensive game again. He is more aggressive and is looking for his shot again. Hopefully, he does not revert back to the “old” Nurkic that we saw in the earlier part of Decemember. I also just read that Kevin Love is questionable for tonight, which could lead to Tristan Thompson getting the start, which could actually help Nurkic. Thompson is a much better defender, but he isn’t the offensive threat that Love is. Love also allows the Cavs to go small, which could lead to Nurkic sitting on the bench as they try to match their small ball lineup, if Love sits, Nurkic could see more time on the court.

Others to consider: Marc Gasol $12,500, Pau Gasol $11,500
