Fanduel MLB Lineup Advice 5/18

Unfortunately we had another off day on Sunday, but let’s move into the new week with a positive attitude and it’s time to start a new hot streak! Let’s hop into Monday’s slate and formulate a winning all-day lineup.

Pitchers

Drew Pomeranz, OAK – $6,400

Even though his first start against the Houston Astros this season was less than stellar (5 IP, 4 ER), there are a lot of things to like regarding Drew Pomeranz and his start on Monday. The Astros are one of the most infamous boom or bust hitting teams in the league, as they hit a lot of home runs but also strike out their fair share. Pomeranz’s opponent on the mound is rookie right-hander Lance McCullers, so hopefully the Athletics’ bats can get to the youngster and get the Oakland southpaw that coveted four point win. Hopefully the former Ole Miss standout can have a great outing on Monday with 6+ K’s and the win.

Matt Harvey, NYM – $10,600

If you want to go with a safe bet on Monday, look no further than Mets ace Matt Harvey even though he has a difficult matchup against the Cardinals. Opponents are hitting a measley .214 against the right-hander, and Harvey actually pitches better against his natural platoon disadvantage (.190 average, 27 K’s. This piece of information is nice, since St. Louis features many prominent lefties in their lineup (Carpenter, Adams, Wong, Heyward). John Lackey certainly isn’t a world killer so hopefully the Mets’ bats can remain active like they were in their weekend series against the Brewers and get Harvey the win. Harvey has a nice 9.06 K/9 to start the season, and look for him to match those numbers and post a quality start on Monday.

Other options: Chris Sale (CWS), Rubby de la Rosa (ARI)

Hitters

Stephen Vogt, C, OAK – $3,900

Vogt has been one of the hottest fantasy commodities at catcher thus far this season, and he has another great matchup on Monday against rookie righty Lance McCullers (as mentioned above). I like the Athletics stack as a whole on Monday, but if you had to pick one hitter from that lineup I would go with Vogt. He is absolutely mashing right-handed pitching this season (.353 average, 8 HR), and expect him to be in the middle of the lineup which means ample opportunity for fantasy stats.

Jose Abreu, 1B, CWS – $3,700

Abreu has gained the reputation of a “Cy Young killer” in his young career, and he holds a career 8-for-21 mark against the Indians’ Corey Kluber with two doubles and two home runs. There are safer and cheaper options at first base on Monday but if you’re looking for a guy who likes to show up in big games, plug Abreu into your lineups with confidence.
