Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Week 23
As the calendar flips to September, and a little shorter than usual, here are four waiver wire additions to consider in your fantasy baseball league for the stretch drive.
4. Jayson Werth, OF, Washington Nationals
Werth returned from the disabled list last Monday, and went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. He has gone hitless in three straight games entering Sunday, but he still has four RBI in five games since coming back and should bein the lineup nearly every day from here on out.
Werth should be owned, at minimum, in NL-only leagues. But owners in deeper mixed leagues could do worse than to add him for outfield depth.
ESPN Ownership: 5.7%
3. Brandon Drury, 2B, Arizona Diamondbacks
Drury has a hit in five of his last six games, with four RBI and four extra base hits over that span. His overall numbers at solid (.271, 10 home runs, 54 RBI, 33 doubles), but Drury also carries eligibility at third base (29 games) and in the outfield (89 games) in ESPN leagues from last year.
Drury provides enough to help fantasy owners in the final couple weeks of the season, and he’s mostly off the radar.
ESPN Ownership: 22.4%
2. Blake Parker, RP, Los Angeles Angels
After a revolving closer door for most of August, Parker has picked up four straight saves while not allowing a hit in seven straight appearances. Overall he has five saves, a 2.10 ERA and an 11.3 K/9 this season.
Manager Mike Scioscia could always make a change, as every game matters for the Angels right now in the Wild Card race. But Parker is the man for the ninth inning until further notice, and thus should be owned in fantasy leagues.
ESPN Ownership: 20.4%
1. Jorge Polanco, SS, Minnesota Twins
Since the beginning of August (29 games), Polanco is hitting .382 (1.129 OPS) with seven home runs, 28 RBI, 19 runs scored and four stolen bases in five attempts. That includes a streak of four straight games with a home run, and Polanco has driven in a run in three straight games

His recent surge is due for some correction, but Polanco was always a good hitter in the minors and seems to have found something now. He can help fantasy owners over the rest of this season, and he’s someone to grab now if you’re in a keeper league.
ESPN Ownership: 44.4%
