Fantasy Football Week 3 Streamers: QB, TE, Team Defense

Before diving into Week 3’s streamers, let’s look at Week 2’s results (Yahoo! scoring, 0.5-point PPR).

Quarterback: Philip Rivers-11.86 points
Tight End: Logan Thomas-4.6 points

Team Defense: Arizona Cardinals-9 points

Here are my quarterback, tight end and team defense fantasy football streamers for Week 3.

Quarterback: Gardner Minshew, Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Miami Dolphins (Thursday night)

After a historically efficient performance in Week 1 (19-for-20 for 173 yards, three touchdowns), Minshew went 30-for-45 for 339 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions against the Tennessee Titans in Week 2. A top-10 fantasy quarterback through two weeks, Minshew gets his best matchup thus far in Week 3.

The Miami Dolphins have allowed the third-most fantasy points to quarterbacks through two games (Yahoo! scoring-second most-ESPN scoring). Cam Newton got them on the ground in Week 1 (75 yards, two touchdowns), and Josh Allen got them by air in Week 2 (417 yards, four touchdowns). Cornerback Byron Jones (groin) was injured last Sunday, and the short turnaround for a Thursday night game makes him unlikely to play against the Jaguars.

First off, Minshew should be owned in a lot more leagues. But as long as he qualifies he’ll have streaming appeal through a nice upcoming schedule, and he gets the nod as my top quarterback streamer for Week 3.

ESPN Ownership: 24.9%
Yahoo! Ownership: 33%

Others To Consider: Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans at Minnesota Vikings (check ownership); Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals at Philadelphia Eagles; Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers vs. Carolina Panthers (make sure he’s starting); Mitchell Trubisky, Chicago Bears at Atlanta Falcons; Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns vs. Washington

Tight End: Dalton Schultz, Dallas Cowboys at Seattle Seahawks

Blake Jarwin suffered a torn ACL in Week 1, which opened up an opportunity for Schultz. Albeit against the feeble Atlanta Falcons defense, he delivered with nine catches (on 10 targets) for 88 yards and a touchdown in Week 2. A far tougher-looking matchup is coming in Week 3, but there’s still potential for Schultz.

The Seattle Seahawks were one of the worst fantasy defenses against tight ends in 2019. But through two weeks this year (the Jamal Adams effect?), they are in the top-five against the position. Opposing tight ends have only been targeted eight times against Seattle, with Hayden Hurst in Week 1 getting five on his way to three catches for 38 yards.

The role projected for Jarwin this year, fostering plenty of breakout buzz, has now fallen to Schultz. It’s a tough matchup in Week 3, but I’m betting on Schultz to deliver solid catch and yardage totals with a score against Seattle.

Others To Consider: Mike Gesicki, Miami Dolphins at Jacksonville Jaguars (Thursday night, check ownership); Jonnu Smith, Tennessee Titans at Minnesota Vikings (check ownership); Drew Sample, Cincinnati Bengals at Philadelphia Eagles; Logan Thomas, Washington at Cleveland Browns; Jordan Akins, Houston Texans at Pittsburgh Steelers; Mo Alie-Cox, Indianapolis Colts vs. New York Jets (check Jack Doyle‘s status); Tyler Eifert, Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Miami Dolphins (Thursday night)

Team Defense: Indianapolis Colts vs. New York Jets

The Colts defense had a fantastic showing in Week 2 (15 fantasy points-Yahoo! scoring), holding the Minnesota Vikings to 175 total yards with three interceptions and two sacks (including one for a safety). In Week 3, the matchup is flat-out as good as it gets.

The New York Jets are averaging just 15.0 points per game through two games, and they have put up less than 280 yards of offense in both contests. All three of their touchdowns have come in the second half, and two of them were 69 and 30-yard plays. A thin set of weapons around Sam Darnold has been thinned by injuries. Jamison Crowder (hamstring) missed Week 2, and Breshad Perriman (ankle) is likely to miss Week 3. So Chris Hogan and Braxton Berrios may be the Jets’ top two wide receivers against the Colts.

The Jets are a weekly target for a defense streamer where it’ll be possible, and the Colts fit despite being well-owned in ESPN leagues (with room to add though).
