Fantasy Football Week 5 Streamers: QB, TE, Team Defense

Before the unveil of Week 5’s streamers, let’s review Week 4’s results (Yahoo! scoring, 0.5-point PPR).

Quarterback: Ryan Fitzpatrick-23.3 points
Tight End: Eric Ebron-DNP, Dalton Schultz was the pivot-15.2 points
Team Defense: Denver Broncos-6 points

Here are Week 5’s quarterback, tight end and team defense streamers.

Quarterback: Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers at New Orleans Saints (Monday Night)

Herbert went 20-for-25 for 290 yards with three touchdowns and one interception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4, along with 14 rushing yards. He has put up over 23 fantasy points (Yahoo! scoring) in two of this three starts, with at least 290 passing yards in all three (over 300 twice) and multiple touchdowns accounted for twice.

In Week 5 Herbert gets a matchup against the New Orleans Saints, who have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points (tied) to quarterbacks so far this season (Yahoo! scoring). All four quarterbacks they’ve faced have thrown multiple touchdown passes, including three touchdown passes by the last three, and two have topped 280 yards through the air. Count Tom Brady‘s rushing touchdown in Week 1, and all four opposing quarterbacks have accounted for exactly three touchdowns against the Saints.

The specter of a healthy Tyrod Taylor will (inexplicably) hang over Herbert until head coach Anthony Lynn comes to his senses. But the rookie signal caller out of Oregon is in a great spot for Week 5, and he gets the edge as my to streaming quarterback for the week.

Others To Consider: Teddy Bridgewater, Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons; Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings at Seattle Seahawks (Sunday night); Gardner Minshew, Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans; Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs; Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns vs. Indianapolis Colts; Daniel Jones, New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys

Tight End: Mo Alie-Cox, Indianapolis Colts at Cleveland Browns

Alie-Cox only got two targets in Week 4 against the Chicago Bears, but his one catch went for a 13-yard touchdown. Trey Burton somehow got five targets in his season debut, with the expected results (two catches for 16 yards), while Jack Doyle had just one targets as the Colts deployed three tight ends will everyone healthy. But Alie-Cox has scored in back-to-back games, with a 100-yard game preceding that in Week 2.

In Week 5 the Colts will take on the Cleveland Browns, who have allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to tight ends through four weeks. And individual tight end has had at least six targets against them in all four games (five total), four of them have put up at least eight fantasy points (Yahoo! 0.5-point PPR scoring) and three of them have scored.

The Colts seem firmly committed to using all three of their tight ends, as long as all three are healthy of course. But Alie-Cox is the best of the bunch. With a good matchup and Philip Rivers‘ eye in the red zone, “Mo A-C” get the nod as my top tight end streamer for Week 5.

Others To Consider: Dalton Schultz, Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants, Cameron Brate, Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Chicago Bears (Thursday night); Eric Ebron, Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Philadelphia Eagles; Ian Thomas, Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons

Team Defense: Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants

The Cowboys’ defense has been abject disaster through four weeks. Without diving into the traditional numbers, that has obviously translated to fantasy with negative points twice. But they do have six sacks over the last two games, and that bodes well for a good matchup in Week 5.

The New York Giants have simply been dreadful offensively thus far. They’ve scored 16, 13, 9 and 9 points, with multiple sacks allowed in all four games and multiple giveaways three times. Injuries to Saquon Barkley and Sterling Shepard have really hurt the talent around Daniel Jones.

The Cowboys’ defense will not be viable in fantasy very many weeks this year. But for Week 5, in about as good a matchup as it gets against the lackluster Giants, they are on the radar. Narrower ownership puts them atop the list of streaming options for the week.
