Four Down Territory: Week 1

The NFL is back and what a week it was. We were treated to some overtime, saw some high powered offenses, and much more. The greatest part? It’s only the first week! Let’s start this drive, shall we?

carolinapanthersvdenverbroncosxhrwausth3_l1st Down: It really doesn’t matter who Denver throws in at quarterback as long as Von Miller and friends are breathing. The Broncos defense kicked it into gear on opening night after the Panthers put up 17 first half points. Cam and Kelvin Benjamin picked up where they left off before his ACL tear last year but it still wasn’t enough. What’s the NFL without some controversy? Newton was battered the entire game and someone might be in hot water after it seemed like he suffered a concussion-like symptoms but wasn’t taken off the field. Luckily for the Panthers, they play the 49ers this week.

2nd Down: If Oakland is going to keep playing like they did on Sunday then they need a primetime slot every week. Del Rio took the ultimate gamble in going for two at the end of the fourth instead of kicking the extra point and going for overtime. Derek Carr must have a jar of moxie with him at all times after throwing that dime to Crabtree. Though the defense gave up a lot of points one still can’t help but to be excited about what’s going on in the black hole this year.

3rd Down: A.J. Green seems to be one of the few people who vacation on Revis Island. Sunday Green caught 12 passes for 180 yards and one touchdown as the Bengals edged the Jets with a last second field goal. Green better keep it up, he’s playing in Pittsburgh next Sunday.

4th Down: Let’s talk quarterbacks. Jimmy Garoppolo, Dak Prescott, and Carson Wentz all made their NFL debuts this weekend. Wentz was the most impressive but all three played well. On the flip side, Jared Goff wasn’t even active for the Rams opener in San Francisco. Los Angeles will be living a nightmare if the number one pick doesn’t start showing why he was drafted so high. As for the other three, the fans in New England, Dallas, and Philadelphia are all smiles knowing that their future is bright.

Extra Tidbits: Did the Chargers choke or did the Chiefs win? Andrew Luck can do it all, except play defense. Aaron Rodgers is unreal. Antonio Brown will give Rihanna a run for her money. The Vikings defense has decided to play offense, too. You gotta feel for RGIII, guy can’t catch a break.

Countdown: 22 more weeks of football!!!!
