Four Down Territory: Week 14

Let’s all have a moment of silence celebration, please.

The Rams have finally come to their senses and fired Mr. Mediocre himself, Jeff Fisher. If you listen closely you can hear fans in LA buying tickets. You don’t have to listen closely to hear Eric Dickerson laugh in victory. Last week the Rams announced that Fisher had signed a two year extension and now he’s unemployed.

Life comes at you fast.

One thing to feel bad about for Jeff. After all these years of going 7-9 and 8-8 he finally tied Dan Reeves and the most losingest coach of all time. With three games left to go against Seattle,San Francisco, and Arizona it was Fisher’s destiny to make history. No worries, though, I’m sure some time will hire him as a head coach in two years.

This made me chuckle, by the way.

Let’s start the drive.

1st Down: Let’s do a blind QB test, okay?

QB 1: 60.6 Comp%, 13 TD, 6 INT, 476 Rush Yds, 6 Rush TD, 62.2 QBR.

QB 2: 65.2 Comp%, 17 TD, 12 INT 59 Rush Yds, 2 Rush TD, 59.5 QBR.

Take a moment and think which QB you’d like to take for a season. Got it? Time to reveal our candidates.

QB 1 is Tyrod Taylor and QB 2 is Joe Flacco. Funny, since Tyrod was Joe’s back up once upon a time. Tyrod’s numbers aren’t mind blowing but he’s doing a serviceable job running the show for the Bills. Joe is having an average year while Taylor is having a dip in production. All that being said it seems like Tyrod is always fighting for his job; the coaching staff even thought about benching him. The thirst to see Cardale play is consuming the fan base and it’s understandable. They want to see what the future may hold in the midst of a lost season hold but the Bills demise isn’t because of Taylor. The blame for the season should fall at the feet of Rex Ryan. His defense ranks 18th in the league and has let them down. Rex will most likely be fired this season but will have no trouble finding another gig. Tyrod, on the other hand, will have to continue to fight for his NFL career even after putting up decent numbers.

2nd Down: Don’t look now but here comes the QB class of 2015.  Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota are leading their teams to playoff berths and it’s only their second year. This isn’t much of a surprise for Winston, being that he was projected as a NFL quarterback and won a national title as a freshman. Mariota’s rise has been something great to watch. Coming out of Oregon many questioned if Marcus could conform to the typical NFL offense. There were even questions about if he could take a snap from under center. Mariota has more than shattered that stigma by throwing for 25 touchdowns to only 8 interceptions in 2016 with three games to go. The most impressive stat is that he’s only rushed for two touchdowns all year. As someone who was known for his running ability Marcus has done the most damage from the pocket. Having the ability to hand of to DeMarco Murray helps, too. Other teams with young quarterbacks can only hope that their guy develops as quickly as Jameis and Marcus.

3rd Down: As long as you have a quarterback then you always have a chance. That’s an old football proverb that rang true this weekend. Aaron Rodgers has found his mojo and gave a good old fashioned beat down to the Seahawks. Rodgers threw three touchdowns Sunday against the Legion of Boom and the game got so out of hand that Fox decided to show us the New Orleans/Tampa Bay matchup. Wilson had the worst day of his career and it looks like the Packers are heating up at the right time. Trust me, no one wants to see Green Bay in January.

4th Down: I’ll scream this until the day I die; billionaire owners should pay for new stadiums, not taxpayers. Oakland City and County Officials will vote Tuesday on a $1.3 billion stadium design to keep the team in Oakland. $350 million of that will be public money. That’s $350 million that could go to 350 million more useful ventures. I understand that if Oakland won’t put up the money then some other city will. I also understand that billionaires don’t become, and remain, billionaires by paying for everything themselves. It’s just how the ball bounces.

Extra Tidbits: Marquette King and Kim Kardashian? All while she’s still married to Ye?Someone in the Raiders’ organization needs to shut. that. down. Matt Barkley the future of the Bears? Lol. Matthew Stafford led his eighth comeback this season while dealing with an injured finger on his throwing hand. Better man than me.
