Four Down Territory: Week 3

Week three is in the books and there were a lot of interesting storylines to choose from. Let’s see which ones made it in 4DT.

1st Down: The Ravens squeaked by the Jaguars Sunday becoming one of five teams that are still undefeated. The main story from this contest isn’t the game itself, but what happened after. Jalen Ramsey, for some rhyme or reason, said he didn’t respect Steve Smith as a man. Smith didn’t take that lightly, he had some harsh words for him on Twitter.

He also went on Mike and Mike to discuss it further. Jalen, let me give you a free piece of advice. I understand that you’re a rookie and you want to prove yourself and that’s fine. You don’t, however, want to go after someone who’s bout that action. It just so happens, Steve is one of those guys. A 5’9″ receiver doesn’t last this long in the NFL if he doesn’t have some fire in his belly. Take this L and go about your business. For more tips feel free to read my guide for your rookie year.

2nd Down: The rematch we’ve all been waiting for occurred during week 3. Josh Norman and Odell Beckham Jr. met face to face in the Meadowlands as Washington played the Giants. Beckham won on the stat sheet and highlight reel but Norman won everything else. Last week on the Pay Me No Mind Podcast (@PMNMhaven) I said that if Odell could focus on the task at hand that he would torch Norman and in a way, he did. For those who watched the game, though, we all saw Norman once again psyche Beckham out. He had a complete meltdown and even got caught some hands from the kickers net. If Beckham can’t control his emotions then teams will always have a way to stop him.

3rd Down: No Teddy, No AP, no problem? That seems to be the Vikings logo for 2016. Minnesota dominated Carolina this weekend thanks to their defense. Cam rushed for one touchdown but threw 3 interceptions including the game sealing pick. Sam Bradford led two touchdown drives, throwing one touchdown. Add a safety, and a punt return for a touchdown and the Vikings’ defense/special teams can claim nine out of the twenty-two points scored against Carolina. The Vikings are finding ways to win without their two top stars. Will they continue this streak of fall back down to earth?

4th Down: LSU fired Les Miles Sunday after losing to Auburn on Saturday. This is an NFL piece but I feel compelled to tell Leonard Fournette to stop playing now. You aren’t in the hunt for the national title and you probably won’t win the Heisman. It’s time to start thinking about yourself and your future. Teams are aiming for your knees and the risk is too great. Stop playing for free and prepare for Sundays. The NCAA has made enough money off your back.

Extra Tidbits: Blake Bortles has thrown 5 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, so much for “the leap.” After Monday Night the Saints are 0-3 and rank 31st in total defense. It’s time to cut ties with Drew Brees and Sean Payton and start anew. Chip Kelly better hope Kaepernick can revitalize his offense. If not, this might be a one year lease in San Francisco. Terrelle Pryor is the ultimate swiss army knife. Too bad he plays in Cleveland. If you look closely you can see the smallest grass stain on Jared Goff‘s jersey from warmups. How frustrating is it to watch Case Keenum stink up the joint while you watch. Is he really THAT bad?
