Four Down Territory: Week 8
We’ve officially hit the halfway point of the NFL season. Time flies when you’re watching binge watching football, right?
1st Down: Last week on 4DT I mentioned how bad the football has been this year. Well, the Packers and Falcons must of heard my gripe because they played a great game Sunday. Both teams combined for 698 yards of offense and eight touchdowns. Aaron Rodgers looked like his old, discount double check, self by throwing four touchdowns and even running in a two point conversion. Not to be outdone, Matty Fire (what we should call him) threw three touchdowns and led the game winning drive to seal the victory with 31 seconds left. The scary part? Julio Jones was held in check and Atlanta still won. The Falcons are still in first place of the NFC South and Green Bay is only one game out of the NFC North.
2nd Down: Sunday night America gets to travel to the black hole to watch the Raiders and Broncos fight for first place. Both teams are sitting at 6-2 but the main story is the coming out party for Derek Carr. The Raiders quarterback has thrown 17 touchdowns this year, tying him for third in the league. The Raiders’ defense isn’t that good but as long as they have a stellar quarterback, which they do, then they’ll always have a chance. As one class of great quarterbacks start to leave Carr is cementing himself as one of the best to come. Too bad he won’t be able to call Oakland home for much longer.
3rd Down: Before the season started the NFC East was labeled as one of the worst divisions in football. Washington was labeled as flukey, the Eagles were rebuilding, no one knew what the Giants were going to be, and the Cowboys had a great offense but a horrendous defense. Halfway into the season and no team has a losing record; the only division that can make that claim. The biggest surprise is the rise of Carson Wentz and Dak Precsott. Wentz was taken second overall so the shock isn’t that unbelievable but the emergence of Dak has been unprecedented. The Cowboys are not only the number one seed in the NFC East but the entire NFC. The inevitable return of Tony Romo is going the be the story to watch as we enter the second half of the year.
4th Down: Sunday Melvin Gordon ran into Wade Phillips on the sideline. The Broncos defensive coordinator had to be carted off the field. This is just a reminder of how strong, fast, and massive NFL players are. In the future maybe coaches should wear some padding themselves, or at least have a benchwarmer guard them while they travel down the sidelines. Phillips is okay and even had a chuckle about it on Twitter.
Thanks and I appreciate everyone's concern -I am ok today and back to work at what I love –I get the big hit award for the week!

They say it was a collision on the sideline but actually I got run over.

Tidbits: Andre Johnson decided to call it a career. Let’s take a moment to honor one of his greatest moments. A Bills fan apparently threw a dildo on the field Sunday. How on earth did they sneak it into the stadium? Another week, another tie. The NFL really needs to figure out how overtime should work, we’re begging you. Finally, please, please, please keep the Cam memes coming.
