NFL DFS DraftKings Cash Game Lineup – Week 5 (Main Slate – 12 Games 10/9/16)

Each week, I’ll create a cash game lineup for DraftKings. Since this is usually posted by Wednesday, the cash game lineups may change slightly by Sunday.

In cash games, you should always look for each player to reach at least 3x value.

DraftKings Points/(Player Salary/1000) = Value

Example: If Carson Wentz has a $5,000 salary and scored 15 DraftKings (DK) points, Wentz would reach 3x value based on the formula below.

15 DK Points/($5,000/1,000) = 3x Value

I will also present a 3x stat line. The 3x stat line is not a projection, but a hypothetical stat line that would allow the player to reach three times his value. When creating your own cash game lineup, choose players who you believe can reach the 3x stat line. If you look at a player and don’t think he can reach the 3x stat line, consider choosing a different option in your own lineup.

Week 4 Lineup Review

Our week 4 lineup did well. Cam Newton left the game early with a concussion and was replaced by Derek Anderson who threw for 172 yards and two touchdowns and we were still able to cash. The lineup scored 144.60 DK points and cashed in all of the 50/50s I entered. See last week’s lineup below. week-4-cash-lineup

NFL DFS DraftKings Cash Game Lineup – Week 5

QB – Tom Brady at (CLE) – $7,500

Brady is back! The Browns defense has given up multiple touchdown passes each week this year, and the Patriots have the highest team total on the board. Some will believe Brady will play angry this week after serving his suspension, but even if you exclude the narrative, Brady is still has one of the highest floors in week 5.

3x stat line: 300 passing yards, 2 pass TDs = 23.0 DK Points (3.1x)

RB – Le’Veon Bell vs. (NYJ) – $7,500

The Jets defense is third in run defense DVOA this season (DVOA stats are from Football Outsiders), and I usually won’t take a running back against them, but Bell is a different kind of back. His involvement in the passing game allows us to play Bell regardless of matchup. Bell played 88 percent of the snaps in his first week back from suspension, and DeAngelo Williams played only 29 percent of snaps. Additionally, Bell saw time as a receiver when Williams was in at running back. The Steelers will continue to involve Bell in the passing game, and should give him at least 20 touches each week.

3x stat line: 16 carries, 78 rushing yards, 4 catches, 47 receiving yards, 1 total TD = 22.5 DK Points

RB – Jerick McKinnon vs. (HOU)  – $4,000

Since DraftKings week 5 salaries were released before the Monday night game, they didn’t factor McKinnon’s Monday performance into his current price. This make McKinnon a great value play against the Houston Texans who are 30th in rush defense DVOA. McKinnon had 21 touches against the Giants on Monday night and also received five targets. Matt Asiata will likely remain the goal line back, but McKinnon’s efficiency (4.72 yards per carry) compared to Asiata’s (1.0 yards per carry) should solidify him as the top running back in Minnesota.

3x stat line: 15 carries, 65 rushing yards, 3 catches, 25 receiving yards = 12.0 DK Points

WR – Antonio Brown vs. (NYJ) – $9,800

The Jets defense is third against the run and 31st in pass defense. The chart below shows Brown’s game splits over the last three seasons. When Ben Roethlisberger is the quarterback and the Steelers are at home, Brown averages almost 30 PPR points per game. This doesn’t even include the DraftKings bonus for going over 100 receiving yards. In a great matchup, and with this data, Brown is a great play this week.

3x stat line: 8 catches, 124 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD = 29.4 DK Points

WR – Jarvis Landry vs. (TEN) – $7,000

Landry leads the league in wide receiver touches and is third in targets. Landry is fifth amongst wide receivers in offensive snap percentage (snap numbers are from Football Outsiders), meaning he rarely comes off the field. While the matchup isn’t perfect, the volume trumps the matchup.

3x stat line: 8 catches, 70 receiving yards, 1 total TD = 21.0 DK Points

WR – Robert Woods at (LA) – $3,900

Without Sammy Watkins in the lineup, Woods has taken over as the top wide receiver on the Bills. Woods received eight targets in week 3 and ten targets in week 4. I don’t love the matchup on the road, but if the Bill are going to move the ball through the air, it’s going to go through Woods. For $3,900, I’ll take the targets and pay up at other positions.

3x stat line: 5 catches, 67 receiving yards = 11.7 DK Points

TE – Zach Ertz at (DET) – $3,500

Tight ends are underpriced on DraftKings right now, meaning it’s possible to play two tight ends in your lineups. Ertz is coming back from injury, but had the bye week to rest. Before the injury, Ertz had six catches for 58 yards in week 1 against the Browns. The Lions are 29th against the tight end and have given up six touchdowns to the position while allowing at least one each week this year.

3x stat line: 5 catches, 55 receiving yards = 10.5 DK Points

FLEX – Hunter Henry at (OAK) – $3,300

Henry played on 97 percent of the Chargers offensive snaps in week 4 and 100 percent of the offensive snaps in week 3. If Antonio Gates remains out or limited, Henry is too cheap. The Raiders are 21st against the tight end and Henry has a respectable nine catches on 12 targets over the last two weeks.

3x stat line: 5 catches, 49 receiving yards = 9.9 DK Points

D/ST – Minnesota Vikings vs. (HOU) – $3,400

The Vikings D/ST is averaging 16.8 DK points per game through four weeks. The Texans have one of the lowest team totals this week and the Vikings are favored by six points at home. This defense is elite, and the Texans only have five offensive touchdowns this season.

3x stat line: 14-20 points against, 3 sacks, 3 turnovers = 10 DK Points (2.9x)
