“Not To Brag, But I Amaze and Astonish.” – Fantasy Football

First, that is a line spoken by the character Alexander Hamilton in the Tony Award-winning play Hamilton. If you didn’t know now you know.

Second, it could easily apply to a few players who showed up and showed out in Week 11, NFL, even if they didn’t help our fantasy fortunes.

TAYSOM HILL, QUARTERBACK, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

So you are starting a tight end at the quarterback position? A tight end who hadn’t had a career NFL start and had not thrown more than two passes in a game since 2019, over Jameis Winston? Come on Sean Payton!!!!

Yeah well, it worked. Granted Hill wasn’t asked to do much and it was against the Atlanta Falcons but all that just seems like white noise because he did the most important thing, he led the Saints to a win.

Hill had 10 carries for 51 yards and two touchdowns, fantasy worthy. He also threw for 233 yards averaging 10.1 yards per attempt, NFL-worthy. There will be those that note that out of his 23 attempts, nine did not go past the line of scrimmage, or that 10 of the 23 went more than five yards, that’s when you mention they won the game. You could even throw in the fact that four of his 23 attempts that went at 15 yards or more were all completions. Oh yeah, and they won the game.

FRANK GORE, RUNNING BACK NEW YORK JETS

Same as it ever was…same as it ever was…Let the days go by…

If Frank Gore doesn’t amaze and astonish you…then who does?  In yet another week when the rookie was supposed to take over primary running back duties, La’Mical Perine went down with an ankle injury.  You know who was left standing…er running? That would be Gore.

It is Week 11 in the NFL.  Gore has had double-digit carries in every week but two.  And in Week 11, he finished with 15 carries for 61 yards and a touchdown.  There is no word yet on the extent of Perine’s injury. But does it matter? At age 37 this 5’9″ 212 pound running back still amazes and astonishes.

P.J. WALKER, QUARTERBACK, CAROLINA PANTHERS

So you are starting an XFL quarterback in the NFL? Yeah, well it worked. The Panthers won their first games after five straight losses with Walker under center. His stats for the day 24-of-34, 258 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. So the two interceptions were both end-zone picks, but they won.

Walker is a confident quarterback who probably would have won XFL Most Valuable Player if not for its untimely demise.  He started five games in XFL averaging 267.6 passing yards and three touchdowns per game.  He led the league in passing yards (1338) and touchdowns (15).  And while I know this isn’t the XFL, he did beat out 2019 third-round draft pick Will Grier for this start and oh yeah, the Panthers won their first game in five tries.
