Need some insight into week 1?

Look no further:

It’s damn hard to find any decent Daily Fantasy Football information for week 1 of the NFL Season. The season doesn’t kick off for another two weeks and most people are still focusing on their traditional leagues (present company included). I thought I would switch gears a little and start focusing on the first week of daily, after all, I’m not going to pay for my kids college by cleaning up the office league this year.

PHI @ ATL

Matt Ryan (8800)/Julio Jones (9000)

Matt Ryan finished just outside of the top 5 QB according to Yahoo standard scoring leagues, and Fantasy Pros has him ranked 7th this preseason. At $8800, Ryan is not a particularly cheap QB option, nor does he have a $9700 price tag that Rodgers will cost you. Julio on the other hand is at the top of the WR price tag for week one and for good reason. Philadelphia gave up the most fantasy points to wide receivers last year, which is about 18% more than the league average (Yahoo) and the 3rd most fantasy points to QBs. Furthermore, Jones is a beast with little competition and Ryan can’t seem to feed enough. Roddy White did not threaten Jones’s fantasy points last year, in fact if anything White helps keep the defense from double teaming Jones. I don’t see Roddy’s elbow surgery as relevant to Jones week 1 either. Jones managed 1593 receiving yards last year, just 100 yds less than Antonio Brown, but he did it with 10% less targets. Jones is efficient and he will continue to get the bulk of the work. Early vegas projections are calling this the highest scoring game of the weekend (53.5 pts) and expects the game to be close with the spread at 1.5. If you can’t afford a Ryan/Jones combo, take a look at Leonard Hankerson (4500). Hankerson has taken the WR 3 position this preseason, and could be a possible WR 2 if Roddy can’t play week one. Even if Roddy White does play week one, Hankerson is still an intriguing option.

GB @ CHI

Aaron Rodgers (9700)/Davante Adams (5500)/Randall Cobb (8400)

MMMM…nothing says good daily fantasy like an age old rivalry, and Cutler with something to prove…

…the reality is, this is a game to target regardless, and it should be high paced. Chicago provides a6% bump to wide receivers (Yahoo 2014 Season) and allowed the 2nd most points for QBposition last year (Yahoo). Aaron Rodgers is a stud, possibly the best player in football and he will elevate anyone he plays with. Both Cobb and Adams were priced before Jordy Nelson’s season ending injury, so you can imagine the value. Both players have the ability to bring in 2X-3X value easily. Adams should easily hit 3X at the 5500 price tag (expect that to go to 7000+ week 2). This is another game that Vegas projects to be high scoring at 50. The spread at 4 doesn’t have blow out written all over it, but is higher than most week 1 projections. If GB gets a huge lead, they could put Lacy or Starks to work, limiting WR value, but I don’t a situation in which these guys don’t make you money.

And finally…

manning-thomas

Payton Manning (9100) /Dmaryius Thomas (8800)

Bal @ Den

This one is a little more daunting . You have two of the best players in football, so you are probably thinking that there isn’t much to discuss here…wrong. There are still some concerns that Manning is no longer the QB he once was and that the end of 2014 season might be a preview to 2015. Given that both players are the #3 most expensive on Fanduel for their respective positions, I would understand if you sat this one out. That being said, Week 1 is a great time to use known weapons. Compared the remaining weeks, these two are relatively inexpensive. Top QB cost for week one is $9700. Top WR price is $9000. Those are about $1000-$1500 less than you will expect in a few weeks. The opportunity cost is much lower compared to the rest of the season and the predictability of success is higher. Baltimore allowed the fourth most wide receiver fantasy points last year, 15% more than the average and this game is projected to be the second highest scoring game on Sunday (53pts). Emmanuel Sanders (8200) is another possibility and it sounds like he is going to be ready for week 1, but unless the cost savings is necessary, I would stick with Thomas. On the contrarian side of the ball, I think Owen Daniels is an interesting option (5500). Manning makes use of the TE position better than most QB and if he struggles getting the ball down field, Daniels will benefit.
