Strengths

  • Great size at 6’6″ and 225 lbs,
  • Makes impact blocks
  • Does a good job fighting back to the ball
  • Runs with power after making the catch using his size to overpower smaller defenders.
  • Average route runner. He doesn’t show a ton of creativity, but cuts hard and find s openings in the defense.
  • Natural ability to high point a ball, which is crucial to get the most out of his size.

Weaknesses

  • Slow off the line, however, he builds up speed over time.
  • Some questions with contested drops when he is profiled as a potential elite red zone threat.

Bottom Line

Hakeem Butler is a well-rounded receiver. It is hard to pick any holes in his games, but at the same time, it is hard to pick out any elite qualities outside or size. While he may not have great initial burst, his long strides eat up ground and can run away from defenders. This makes him a much larger threat in a vertical passing game. I don’t view Butler as a team’s WR1 in the NFL, but I could see him having a solid role as a complementary receiver throughout his career. His size alone creates matchup problems for most defensive backs, add in that he doesn’t have much for a weak spot and you’ve created a high floor receiver with the chance to be an elite red zone threat.
