NFL Player Comparison | Gus Edwards / Jordan Howard

2021 Dynasty Rookie Draft Projection | Mid Second Round

Bottom Line

My player comparison probably seems like a slight to Trey Sermon truthers, but it isn’t. Solely as a runner, Gus Edwards has been one of the more efficient and productive players when it comes to Production / Attempt. The issue here is not if Trey Sermon will be able to compete at the next level. The issue is the NFL no longer values the style of running back that Trey Sermon profiles to be. Sermon looks to be a decisive bruising runner who could excel on early downs and in goal-line situations. His lack of pass-catching will limit his fantasy value and will almost guarantee that he will be limited to an early-down role. The other name I list here in Jordan Howard suffered the same fate and it removed him from fantasy consideration pretty early in his career. I think that Sermon could prove to be a much better NFL player than he is a dynasty asset. If he lands on a run-heavy offense I could see him filling a similar role to Gus Edwards in Baltimore this past year and if he doesn’t he could end up like Howard or worse Jeremy Hill.
