Overall Outlook

The 2020 season left much to be desired in regards to Tua’s rookie campaign. After a successful career in Alabama and being drafted fifth in the 2020 NFL Draft, everyone wanted to see if his play would transfer to the NFL. Tua fell short of expectations but there were several factors that came into play. He had a major hip injury in 2019 and there was no offseason for rookies prior to the 2020 season. With that said, let’s take a look at what 2021 can look like for Tua now that he’s the presumed starter and has had a year to grow.

The Dolphins believe in Tua and are surrounding him with weapons to find success. Parker and Gesicki will return this season but the team added free agent, Will Fuller and drafted Alabama standout, Jaylen Waddle. The Dolphins had a good running game last year even with injuries but added Malcolm Brown and rookie, Gerrid Doaks. The supporting cast for Tua is in place for him to improve his game in 2021. Expect the team to establish the run to set up the passing game. It’ll be important to execute for this young QB to find his rhythm and get going.

Tua has a wide range of outcomes but I’m leaning towards a productive campaign. He’s being drafted where he should be as QB21. He is safe at that spot but if you want someone that can outperform their ADP, Tua can be that guy. He protects the football, he has added weapons and a full year to prepare. His touchdown rate should increase a little as he only threw eleven touchdowns in ten games. He is a mobile quarterback but doesn’t depend on his feet to be successful. He will run a few scores in himself so that gives him an advantage over other quarterbacks in his ADP range.
