Buy and Sell These Dynasty Fantasy Players Now (Week 2)

How about that ride in? Yes, I’m talking about the chaos that was Week 1 of the NFL. Check out last week’s dynasty buys and sells to see how I fared. And now, on to another week of dynasty trading! Here are a new crop of players to be buying and selling heading into Week 2.

Zach Charbonnet (RB-Seattle Seahawks)

WHY: Offense & Draft Capital

After being drafted in the second round by the Seahawks, Charbonnet was rumored to be encroaching on Kenneth Walker’s touches. Post Week 1, Charbonnet tallied a third as many snaps as Walker.

The Seahawks’ rushing attack was not particularly potent in Week 1, finishing 30th in team yards per carry with 2.3. Therefore, mixing in Charbonnet as the season progresses is very much in the cards.

A year ago, this would not be the offense to invest in. However, a resurgent Geno Smith surrounded by a bevy of weapons and an improving offensive line means I want the upside players.

Dynasty managers that drafted Charbonnet likely spent a mid-late first round rookie pick. If there is any hesitancy about Charbonnet’s role going forward, now is the time to strike a deal.

Joshua Kelley (RB-Los Angeles Chargers)

WHY: Snap Share & Lack Of Competition

Kelley plays behind one of the most set-it-and-forget-it RBs in fantasy formats in Austin Ekeler. And despite Ekeler being the lead back, he narrowly out-snapped Kelley 41 to 38.

Kelley finished as a back-end RB-1 with 15.1 fantasy points (PPR). Despite not contributing as a receiver, Kelley was an effective rusher generating 5.7 yards per attempt.

While Kelley has standalone value, his role could continue to grow with rumblings of an ankle injury suffered by Ekeler in Week 1. The injury coupled with Ekeler’s preseason contract dispute highlights the importance of running back depth.

Kelley is not exceptionally young in terms of RB age, but the 25-year-old has plenty of tread left on the tires. Further, the RB competition is lacking behind Ekeler and Kelley. This is the kind of low-cost RB investment for most any dynasty roster.

JK Dobbins (RB-Baltimore Ravens)

WHY: Injury History & Nature of RB Position

The story of Dobbins’ Week 1 is truly unfortunate after a likely season-ending achilles tear. Dobbins was entering a contract year after being drafted in the second round by the Ravens in 2020.

In four seasons Dobbins played in only 24 games. An ACL tear in the 2021 preseason resulted in a lost 2021 season; as well as, an elongated recovery which ate into a portion of the 2022 season.

Dobbins has proven to be an effective runner, with a career 5.8 yards per attempt. RBs like D’Onta Foreman and Cam Akers have come back from achilles injuries in recent years with varied levels of success.

I am optimistic that Dobbins will return to the field but there is uncertainty as to how productive he will be. Dynasty managers would be wise to consider trading away Dobbins based on news touting optimism regarding his recovery and timeline.

Marvin Mims (WR-Denver Broncos)

WHY: Coach’s Preference & Fading Opportunity

Selling a rookie WR who had a promising training camp followed by key injuries propelling him up the depth chart feels like a reach. However, Mims left Week 1 with the fourth-most WR snaps behind the likes of Courtland Sutton, Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Brandon Johnson.

New coach Sean Payton has brought a few former Saints pass-catchers with him in Humphrey and TE Adam Trautman. While Mims earned two receptions for nine yards in Week 1, a huge step needs to be taken over the next few weeks.

Once former first-rounder Jerry Jeudy is no longer dealing with a hamstring injury, the window of opportunity will be severely hampered. Instead of waiting for Mims to hopefully become a low-impact starter, see if you can find a fellow dynasty manager that sees the upside projected throughout the preseason.

More Sells: Kadarius Toney (WR-Kansas City Chiefs) & Michael Gallup (WR-Dallas Cowboys)
