Buy Low, Sell High Week 4: Redraft Edition

Quarterback

Buy Low: Ben Roethlisberger (PIT)

The Steelers have started the season red hot in thanks to a formidable defense and the return of Big Ben, who is finally healthy. Through three weeks, Roethlisberger finds himself sitting at the QB11 in 4-point TD platforms. He has managed to put himself in a great position thus far despite the fact that Roethlisberger is literally not mobile, so there is zero rushing upside. Over the next four weeks, the Steelers’ quarterback has the 10th easiest schedule for the position (including their game against Tennesee which will likely be postponed for week 7/8). If you are in need of a good QB start for the near future, Big Ben is a great cheap option and there’s a chance he’s available in your league, as he’s available in 22.8% of leagues.

Honorable Mention: Daniel Jones (NYG), Lamar Jackson (BAL), Matthew Stafford (DET)

Sell High: Cam Newton (NE)

I think it’s safe to say that Newton has surpassed most of our expectations of how good he would be for both fantasy purposes and for New England in general. Nonetheless, murky waters lay ahead as Newton’s upcoming schedule is somewhat worrisome. It’s also difficult to project the amount of rushing TD’s Newton will receive, as he had four in the first two weeks that have somewhat inflated his fantasy output. I expect Newton’s passing output to rise over the next couple of games before their week seven BYE, even though Kansas City and Denver’s defenses are playing well at this current time.

Honorable Mention: Ryan Tannehill (TEN), Jared Goff (LAR), Joe Burrow (CIN)

Running Back

Buy Low: Todd Gurley (ATL)

It’s been tough sledding for Gurley up until this point, but good times are soon approaching. Gurler is getting decent volume already, averaging just over 17 touches per game. Over the next fourth of a season, Gurley is going up against four of the eight worst rush defenses so far in 2020. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gurley finds himself just under RB1 territory after this next stretch of games either. If you’re a Joe Mixon owner, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to trade with the Gurley owner in your league if you’re in need of some production at the position.

Honorable Mention: Kenyan Drake (ARI), Raheem Mostert (SF), Ronald Jones (TB)

Sell High: Myles Gaskin (MIA)

Gaskin was finally able to grasp control of the wild Miami backfield in week three, receiving 22 carries and another five receptions. It’s very clear that acquiring both Jordan Howard and Matt Breida in the offseason seems to have been a waste of money for Miami. However, you probably won’t find yourself putting Gaskin in your starting lineup for the next couple of weeks unless you’re lacking depth or you have multiple FLEX spots. If you have Gaskin, you probably picked him up off the waivers so trading him for a good piece is a win in and of itself. Picked up, conclusive starting running back, trade. That’s the name of the game.

Honorable Mention: James Robinson (JAX), James Connor (PIT), Darrell Henderson (LAR)

Wide Receiver

Buy Low: Deebo Samuel

Pretty self-explanatory here, but Deebo is almost back and healthy from the 49ers’ short-term IR. There’s a chance he’s back against Philadelphia this week, as HC Mike Shanahan stated that Samuel is healthy, but is working on being “game-ready” at the moment. Once back, Samuel will go back to being the de-facto WR1 for San Francisco in an offense that is humming currently, even with important pieces out. Foot injuries have a higher likelihood of reinjury than most other injuries, but if Samuel does say healthy, he could very well be a league winner for teams at a price that isn’t high at all.

Honorable Mention: DeVante Parker (MIA), Julio Jones (ATL), Diontae Johnson (PIT)

Sell High: Stefon Diggs

Josh Allen’s newest toy Buffalo’s offense has more than delivered early on in the season on his ADP. Through three weeks, Diggs sits as fantasy’s WR6 in 0.5 PPR formats after he was drafted around the sixth round in most drafts. Diggs hasn’t just been the deep-shot target like he was most of the time in Minnesota, but as Allen’s go-to target in the short and intermediate area as well. Diggs also ranks seventh at the position in targets as well. Buffalo has some tough matchups in the next part of their season, where the Raiders and Chiefs have both been stingy giving up points to opposing receivers. Diggs value is very high at the moment, so shipping him should be a though that Diggs owners should have.

Honorable Mention: Allen Lazard (GB), Keelan Cole (JAX), Adam Theilen (MIN)

Tight End

Buy Low: Evan Engram

The entire Giants offense has looked downright pitiful so far in 2020, Engram being no different. Being drafted first in that third tier of tight ends right after Waller, Engram has failed miserably so far on that ADP, as he’s sitting as the TE26 after week three. Fortunately for Engram, the Giants are coming up on a run of division games after their week four contest that is very friendly to tight ends. In most leagues, the Engram owner is probably frustrated with him and there is a good chance that he has been benched if they picked up another option, ala Dalton Schultz, Jonnu Smith, Mo Allie-Cox. This is a great time to send in a low offer for Engram with plenty of promise on the horizon.

Honorable Mention: Zach Ertz (PHI), Jared Cook (NO)

Sell High: Mike Gesicki

Gesicki has continued his hot run of form from last season and carried it over to the beginning of this season. Gesicki has been the main bright spot for the Dolphins’ offense, as both DeVante Parker and Preston Williams haven’t been reliable. The next two weeks will be tough for Gesicki when he meets up with Seattle and San Francisco. Although the Seahawks passing defense has been vulnerable, it has been very strict to Gesicki’s tight end group.

Honorable Mention: Jimmy Graham (CHI), Noah Fant (DEN)
