CFL DFS Best Dollar Values DraftKings Week 10

Entering Week 10 of a 21-week CFL season, we are almost at the halfway point of the regular season. Hopefully, you have been reading this series, especially last week as I highly recommended a pay-up for the top-priced QB on the slate. Those that played him were likely rewarded as he threw for 477 passing yards and 6 total touchdowns. While I didn’t smash any other picks, that was the one that made a difference in lineups. As is always the case with Daily Fantasy Sports, we learn and move on. Now, here are the best values in the CFL DFS DraftKings Week 10 main slate.

Quarterback

Dane Evans (HAM) $8,300 vs TOR

Last week, I had a very specific QB strategy. Pay up to the top. That worked, but I am changing my tune for Week 10 and saying that this is a time to pay down at QB. And actually, this selection does reference another idea I had last week: this Argonauts-Tiger-Cats series. The division rivals are playing in back-to-back matchups, but this time around they will be in Hamilton. Yet even on the road in Week 9, Dane Evans outproduced his Toronto QB counterpart. In spite of that, Evans is a full $1K cheaper this week. Playing at home, I like Evans’ chances to score more than enough fantasy points to pay off that $8,600 price tag.

Taylor Cornelius (EDM) $7,700 vs SSK

For the second time this season, the Elks will face the Roughriders after getting crushed by the BC Lions. On the heels of being obliterated by the Lions in Week 1, Edmonton rebounded with a good performance against Saskatchewan. Offensively, the Elks will likely need to attack through the air. That is because the Roughriders defense is especially great against the run, allowing the 2nd fewest rushing yards per game (77.3) in the CFL. Compare this to the passing defense which has surrendered 263.4 passing yards per game, the 4th highest amount in the league. Taylor Cornelius is the cheapest starting QB, and I believe this is the best week to take advantage of that.

Running Back

Jamal Morrow (SSK) $10,400 @ EDM

I want to pay down at QB this week in order to get as many elite pass-catchers into a lineup. While I would necessarily advise to pay up at RB, Jamal Morrow would technically count as a receiver as much as any back. Morrow is currently 2nd on the Roughriders in receptions and 3rd in targets. Not to mention all of the actual rushing production. Because of this versatile role, Morrow is 2nd among CFL running backs in fantasy points per game this season with 18.9. And he is only 0.4 points per game behind 1st place, even though Morrow only has half of the end zone production (3 touchdowns) as that other RB (6 touchdowns). So safe PPR floor, with a chance to put up major production. Morrow is a good value in any type of contest.

Don Jackson (HAM) $7,200 vs TOR

Considering the Tiger-Cats 1-2 punch at RB, it was difficult to envision what type of role Don Jackson would have. Especially when he was inactive from weeks 2 through 5. His skill set always matched that of an early-down and goal-line back. So good TD ceiling for GPP or tournament contests, but no PPR floor for 50/50 or cash games. However, in the 4 games played since returning to the lineup, Jackson has had 3 contests with at least 4 receptions. That includes a season-high 8 catches for 67 yards last week against the Argonauts. During this upcoming rematch with Toronto, I expect Jackson to remain a workhorse back, but at a fraction of the price. Most running backs getting 18 touches are usually in five-figures on DraftKings, not $7,200. Jackson is one of the best values overall on the Week 10 slate.

Wide Receiver

Kenny Lawler (EDM) $10,200 vs SSK

This is where my QB strategies pay off. Earlier, I mentioned that this was a great week to pay down with quarterback, and even at running back. All of this to go after the elite wide receivers like Kenny Lawler. The best way to access at $10K WR, is with a cheaper QB. In this case, stacking Lawler with his $7K QB Cornelius, not only opens up other elite players, but provides the ceiling of a stack if the duo produces. As referenced in Cornelius’ section, the Roughriders defense is one of the best in the league against the run, but more vulnerable through the air. During the previous meeting against Saskatchewan, Lawler produced season-bests in catches (12) and yards (149)on route to a 30+ point fantasy performance. He has yet to hit 100 receiving yards since that game, meaning this may be the best matchup in which to play Lawler.

Dominique Rhymes (BC) $9,500 @ CGY

Last week, I featured the BC Lions QB in my article. However, the WR I suggested as a stack did not catch any of the 5 touchdown passes thrown by the Lions. Instead, 3 of them went to Dominique Rhymes, who has accounted for over 35% of the team’s receiving touchdowns in 2022. On the season, Rhymes has produced 8 receiving scores, while no other Lions player has more than 3 touchdown catches. And while he has eclipsed the $9K mark, but I still consider him a value, especially among his teammates. There are even some other CFL DFS sites where Rhymes is the most expensive BC WR. Meanwhile, on DraftKings, there is a certain Lions WR that has been above $10K at the top of the WR price list all season. Until Rhymes hits five figures, I will still consider him a value. Same goes for his teammate Bryan Burnham at $9,200.

Steven Dunbar (HAM) $8,900 vs TOR

Due to injuries, Steven Dunbar is now the top target on the Tiger-Cats. And DraftKings has adjusted his price accordingly, as have other DFS sites. Yet he is still considered a value in part due to his floor to ceiling combination. Dunbar has only dipped below double-digit fantasy points this season, (8.9 in Week 6), in part because he leads Hamilton with 67 targets. Considering all of these opportunities, including 3 end zone targets last week, Dunbar has yet to produce a multi-touchdown game. Perhaps some positive TD regression is in store. At the very least he is a solid PPR producer for 50/50 and cash games. But if you believe he can hit his potential ceiling, Week 10 is a great opportunity. Dunbar faces a Toronto defense that just allowed to to catch a season-high 7 passes.

Malik Henry (CGY) $7,500 vs BC

The prices to targets on the Stampeders have aligned, at least for Malik Henry. He is currently 3rd on Calgary with 44 targets and 3rd among the team’s wide receivers in DraftKings prices. However, the amounts are still staggering. Henry has 2 targets less than Reggie Begelton, yet is $1,900 cheaper. Perhaps even more surprising is the fact that Henry has produced almost 150 receiving more than Begelton. That is because of his deep play potential, as well as his yard-after-the-catch ability. More than the BC Lions defense, playing against that explosive offense will likely force Calgary into a lot of passing situations. Look for Henry to rebound off of a 1-catch performance. And for the record, I think Begelton is a decent play at $9,600. But that just shows how much of a value Henry is a $7,500.

Deep Dive

Cam Phillips (TOR) $4,200 @ HAM

Last week, a couple of Argonauts wide receivers returned to the field. So even with five other more experienced pass-catchers, it was surprising that the young Cam Phillips led the way for Toronto. In Week 9, Phillips paced the team in targets (7) and yards (85) while being the only Argonaut with a receiving TD. On the season, Phillips is 3rd on Toronto in targets (37) and tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns (3). Even with a deep WR corps, look for Phillips to continue his productive ways.

Defense

Saskatchewan Roughriders $4,600 @ EDM

Paying down at QB, specifically for Taylor Cornelius, is a big bet. For those that disagree with that particular QB selection, then it would make sense to select the opposing defense. Especially when that defense does lead the league in sacks. The Saskatchewan defensive front will be especially dangerous against the Edmonton offensive line which has surrendered 25 sacks so far this season, 2nd most in the CFL. With this recommendation, it is important to correlate your lineups. I would not play an Elks QB-WR stack with the Roughriders defense in the same lineup.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats $4,000 vs TOR

In my article last week, I focused a lot on Toronto players as they were hosting Hamilton. As the Tiger-Cats now get the home matchup, I especially want to turn towards their defense. Last week, Hamilton got 3 sacks against the Argonauts offensive line. With 12 sacks over the past 4 games, the Tiger-Cats defensive front is getting after quarterbacks consistently. In a sense, Toronto got lucky has they did not commit a turnover on offense. This broke a 6-game interception streak for the Hamilton defense. Looks for that to turnover and for the Tiger-Cats to force a takeaway.
