CFL DFS Best Dollar Values DraftKings Week 3

Now we are really getting into the rhythm of things. Week 3 of the CFL season is here. And that means more chances to win big playing Daily Fantasy Sports on DraftKings. For this article series, we will be specifically looking at CFL DFS.

Last week, while I correctly predicted the top RB, but I also recommended some players that were benched or even ruled out. Not the best showing overall, but we live and learn, and aim to be better this time around. In this article, I will identify the CFL players I believe have the best value based on their DraftKings pricing for the Week 3 slate.

Quarterback

Nathan Rourke (BC) $9,500 vs TOR

Canadian QB Nathan Rourke might have arguably the best combination of floor and ceiling at the position. First, his mobility can allow for a floor in the form of rushing yards. That is especially helpful in 50/50 and cash games. But Rourke also scored 2 rushing touchdowns in Week 1, showcasing a ceiling with his legs. Part of the appeal with Rourke is that this is no obvious value WR on the BC Lions to stack. His rushing ability makes Rourke an interesting candidate to play without any teammates (except maybe the defense). When looking for roster flexibility, Rourke could be key in Week 3.

That being said, there are plenty of talented pass-catchers on the Lions depth chart. So Rourke could also easily produce through the air. Yes, he certainly saw a price increase since Week 1, but Rourke still comes in below the $10K mark. With his skill-set, I call that one of the better value on the slate.

Bo Levi Mitchell (CGY) $9,000 vs EDM

It is still early in this CFL season, so we should take all stats with a grain of salt. But in Week 3, Calgary will be going against the league-worst defense in several major categories. Edmonton is last in the league per game in points allowed (42.5), first-downs (25), total offensive yards (450), as well as allowing a league-worst 8.04 yards per play. And Bo Levi Mitchell may be in the perfect situation to take advantage.

After leaving late due to an injury during Week 1, Mitchell returned strong with a 313-yard, 3 TD performance in Week 2. With complete confidence in the health of their QB, the Stampeders threw 42 pass attempts in Week 2. This is significant compared to only 16 carries. With the injury concerns coming from the RB room, perhaps Week 3 will be another pass-heavy game for Calgary, regardless of the outcome.

Trevor Harris (MTL) $7,100 vs SSK

Defying conventions here and Going for 3 quarterbacks. Since he was named the starter after the Week 3 prices were set, Trevor Harris is at a bargain cost of $7,100. And with no fear of being benched for the week, he will likely have an entire game to produce fantasy points. Even against a difficult Saskatchewan defense, Harris should get enough volume to justify the selection. There is however a risk that the Montreal offense will be so inefficient without some key offensive weapons.

Running Back

Jamal Morrow (SSK) $7,500 @ MTL

One of the few players I correctly predicted in last week’s article was Jamal Morrow. During Week 2, he produced over 150 scrimmage yards and he found the end-zone once. Because of the previous productive outing, Morrow now faces a price increase in Week 3. However, with only an additional $800 on his cap hit, Morrow is still a viable value play. With so many RB injuries already occurring early this season, true workhorses like Morrow are not always easy to find. Especially below $8K.

Sean Thomas-Erlington (HAM) $6,000 @ WPG

With Hamilton’s starting RB set to miss a second straight week, that will mean another game with a heavy dose of Sean Thomas-Erlington. Now, normally a workhorse RB at $6,000 would be an incredible value. Problem is, that in last week’s start, Thomas-Erlington only received 5 carries. So don’t expect much on the ground. However, he was also targeted 9 times in Week 2, catching 7 of them for 72 yards and 1 TD. In a full-point PPR format like DraftKings, having a player like Thomas-Erlington is always great for a floor play in a DFS cash contest. However, as the lead back, he will also carry the TD upside needed to make him a viable DFS tournament option.

Wide Receiver

Eugene Lewis (MTL) $10,600 vs SSK

Regardless of the QB, Eugene Lewis is consistently productive. Not only is he leading the league with 239 receiving yards, but he is also the only WR to produce back-to-back 100-yard games in Weeks 1 and 2. And this is in spite of the fact that Lewis has 5 fewer targets, and 6 fewer catches than the current league leader. Eve with the QB carousel in Montreal, Lewis remains a solid value. Now normally a player in five figures is not necessarily the greatest value. However, considering how cheap Trevor Harris is, Lewis has an inexpensive QB to stack alongside. So if you were waiting for the perfect time to play Lewis, it might be Week 3.

Kamar Jorden (CGY) $8,700 vs EDM

Back in Week 1, I predicted Kamar Jorden would open the season as a strong value. That turned out to be false, as he produced only 35 yards on 4 catches. But fast forward to Week 2 and Jorden led Calgary in targets (10), receptions (7), and receiving yards (109), recapturing his role as the Stampeders’ alpha. Yet he is not even the most expensive Calgary WR on DraftKings. That says value to me in Week 3.

Kurleigh Gittens (TOR) $7,200 @ BC

In Toronto’s season-opening game, Kurleigh Gittens was the team’s top target, and led the receivers in both catches and yards. This is a carry-over from late last year when he established some chemistry with his QB. Yet, Gittens is still only $7,200. He continues to carry value heading into this Week 3 matchup with the BC Lions.

Kian Schaffer-Baker (SSK) $7,000 @ MTL

For anyone going with the Montreal duo of Trevor Harris / Eugene Lewis in their lineups, I recommend running it back with Kian Schaffer-Baker. Even without stacking, Shaffer-Baker is still a great value this week. Due to injuries, he is now the second main target in the passing game. But more than that, Shaffer-Baker also received a couple of carries during Week 2. With versatile usage that can allow him to consistently contribute to fantasy points in a variety of ways, Shaffer-Baker will be a great value at his current price.

Deep Dive

Emmanuel Arceneaux (EDM) $2,700 @ CGY

The last couple of weeks, I have admittingly selected mid-tier players for the deep dive section. This time around, I am truly making a deep dive down in price for Emmanuel Arceneaux at $2,700. During Week 2, Arceneaux was second on Edmonton in receptions (3) and receiving yards (85), but that did come with a certain WR missing in action. With a potential return in Week 3, Arceneaux may not see as many opportunities. But given his price, he is certainly worth the risk.

On some other CFL DFS sites, Arceneaux is over $2K more, in relatively similar pricing systems. And while they have traditionally been a stout defense, Calgary has allowed the 3rd most points, and the 2nd most yards so far in this young CFL season. The production is there to be had for Elks players.

Defense

Winnipeg Blue Bombers $5,100 vs HAM

Entering Week 3, there was a slight concern about the availability of Hamilton’s QB. But with a full practice participation, Dane Evans should suit up against Winnipeg. However, in a sense, that could be a good thing for the Blue Bombers defense. While he has the arm talent, Evans also has a propensity to turn the ball over. In 2 games this season, he has thrown a total of 4 interceptions and lost a fumble in each contest. Winnipeg’s defense could certainly create some takeaways.

BC Lions $4,000 vs TOR

For a value defense, I like the BC Lions at $4,000. Coming off of the bye week, the defense will be more rested than their opponent. Now, with only one game played so far this season, there is a fear that the Lions will not be as locked in as other teams. However, Toronto has also only played one game, so that should balance things out. The Argonauts may also be without up to three of their top four offensive weapons. Perhaps we will see a less efficient, and more turnover-prone, Toronto.
