DFS MLB DraftKings Lineup Advice for 7/3

For today, July 3rd, DFS players have both an afternoon slate consisting of six games, as well as a “main slate” of seven games, to partake in. Although neither slate is loaded with pitching aces, the main slate is exceedingly thin.

In order to assist afternoon fantasy players, I will briefly mention a few preferred pitching plays and hitting stacks in the body of the article. The pitchers will be listed in the “others I like” segment.

Pitchers

Top-tier

Clayton Kershaw(Dodgers) $10000 @ Nationals 9-7 record with a 3.25 ERA/0.98 WHIP. Kershaw, who averages 19.9 FPTS/game, has recorded 124 strikeouts over 102.1 innings. With other top pitching options being extremely limited, Kershaw is a must start.

Jake Odorizzi(Astros) $8600 @ Indians despite averaging only 12.3 FPTS/game and having a 2-3 record, Odorizzi has registered a 4.08 ERA/0.96 WHIP on the season.

Others I Like

Cole Irvin(A’s) $7900 vs Red Sox despite the tough matchup, there are very few solid pitching options available for this slate. For the season, Irvin has a 6-7 record with a 3.64 ERA/1.22 WHIP.

Afternoon Slate:

As mentioned earlier, the afternoon slate has a few more pitching options available than the main slate. The top options include: 1)Yu Darvish(Padres $10400 @ Phillies) ; 2) Tyler Mahle(Reds $9600 vs Cubs); 3)Sandy Alcantara(Marlins $9200 @ Braves); and 4)Danny Duffy(Royals $7500 vs Twins). It will be difficult to not choose Darvish and/or Mahle and use Duffy to offset the higher cost of selecting them.

Stacks

Main:

As mentioned in my pitching section, there are very few difficult hitting match ups in the main slate. Nine of the fourteen pitchers come into their games with an ERA of 4.95 or higher. Due to this ineffective pitching, selecting hitters will simply be an act of choosing the hitters that best fit your salary cap needs.

Afternoon:

The White Sox and Brewers are my two favorite stacks for this slate. Both the White Sox and Brewers will be on the road to take on the Tigers(Tarik Skubal) and Pirates(Cody Ponce) respectively. While Skubal(4.06 ERA/1.37 WHIP) has posted decent numbers, Ponce(7.88 ERA/2.00 WHIP) has been extremely generous to opposing hitters.

Having played fantasy football for 27 years and fantasy baseball for ten, I began writing three articles per week and doing a weekly fantasy football DFS pod “Cash Crusade” for FFAffair.Com in 2020. With my living donor kidney transplant on 8/11 and my wife’s double mastectomy on 3/8 behind us, I am looking forward to being the host of Cash Crusade in the fall. The pod will be used as a platform to highlight the human spirit in all of us and a source of inspiration for those going through difficult times. In our spare time, we love to travel(especially the beach) and attend live sporting events.
