Top Plays
Clayton Kershaw
Kershaw is on the mound again, in a home game against the Rockies. Kershaw is the top option by a wide margin and is a must play in cash games. At his high price, there is merit to fading him in tournaments, but I probably won’t.
Zach Greinke
Greinke worries me a bit every time I play him, but he’s facing a Padres team that is 25th in WRC+. The ballpark also helps, as Petco Park is one of the best pitchers parks in the majors. I would have expected to see Greinke’s price a little higher on DraftKings, but at only $8,700, I think you can pair him with Kershaw and still have enough money to fill out the rest of your lineup.
Masahiro Tanaka
Tanaka also scares me every time I play him, but the White Sox strike out at 24.2% against right handers this year. Combine that with just the 24th best WRC+, and it looks like Tanaka has a solid chance of reaching value. Tanaka also comes in as the second largest favorite, only behind Kershaw.
Bryce Harper
Harper is the top hitter on the 11-game main slate. He’ll face Julio Teheran who gives up a career .342 wOBA to lefties while holding righties to just a .255 wOBA. This wide platoon split gives a talented hitter like Harper a clear advantage.
Billy Hamilton/Jose Peraza
We get to see Ubaldo Jiminez against the Reds today and both Hamilton and Peraza have a great chance at a steal if they can get on base. I prefer Hamilton to Peraza for raw fantasy points, but Peraza’s second base eligibility make him just as likely to make it into my lineups.
Wilmer Difo
It’s a Kershaw day, so we need to find some punt plays that can do some damage. I’ll prefer Difo if he’s hitting near the top of the order, but on a day like today, he’s still viable if he’s hitting 8th. He’s the best point/dollar shortstop play even hitting 8th, so if he moves up, I’ll like him even more.
