Top Plays
Corey Kluber
Kluber has not pitched well so far this year, at least from a fantasy standpoint, but he does have upside and is facing a righty-heavy White Sox lineup. He’ll likely pitch in colder weather, which should limit scoring. He has the lowest OTT (see pitcher chart), and although he’s expensive, you can still put together a solid lineup if you pay up for him.
Drew Pomeranz
Pomeranz is simply too cheap on DraftKings. He has huge upside with his strikeout ability and the fact that for some reason, the Orioles are bad against lefties. They have a 27.7 strikeout percentage this year against lefties. The Orioles are also a surprising 22nd in the majors in WRC+ against lefties. I don’t believe this is a fluke either, as they ranked 26th in WRC+ against lefties last season.
Adam Conley
This might be a night to pay down at pitcher. Kluber is my early favorite, but I can’t say I’m excited to play him. Conley is in a very good spot against the Padres in Petco Park. They rank just 24th in WRC+ against lefties. If Conley can get five or six strikeouts, he has a chance to smash value.
Corey Seager/Andrew Toles/Justin Turner/Yasmani Grandal
Even though it’s a Coors slate, my favorite offense of the night will likely be the Dodgers against Taijuan Walker. The Dodgers get a huge park up grade and have one of the highest team totals on the board. I will definitely have Dodgers stacks in tournaments and will have multiple Dodgers in my cash game lineups as well.
Brandon Belt
I’m not a huge fan of Coors on today’s slate. The game total is lower than usual, and Johnny Cueto is on the mound, making it difficult to pay up for Rockies. My favorite play from this game is Brandon Belt. Belt will have the platoon advantage and a great lineup spot against Tyler Chatwood.
Anthony Rizzo/Kyle Schwarber
The Cubs will face Tim Adleman in Great American Ball Park. This park gives up a ton of home runs, and Rizzo and Schwarber will hold the platoon advantage against Adleman. This game is another reason I’ll likely fade a lot of Coors bats.
Notes
My favorite pair right now is Kluber and Pomeranz, but I think it’s possible to pay up for both Kluber and Jacob deGrom if you don’t want the blow up risk of Pomeranz.
Value plays may still be found in Coors, but we’ll have to see who is in the lineup. For example, if Aaron Hill leads off for the Giants, he’s close to a must play.
