Top Plays

Chris Archer

This is an ugly slate for pitching. Archer is the most talented pitcher on the slate, so I’m inclined to pay up for him, even though he takes a major park hit. The strikeout upside is always there with Archer, and since he has the lowest OTT (see pitcher chart) on the slate, he’s my top option.

Amir Garrett

I’m not convinced Garrett is as good of a pitcher as he’s shown this season, but you can’t ignore what he’s done to start the year. He’s averaging 25.2 DraftKings points per game, seven strikeouts per game, and over 6.5 innings per start. He goes into a tough park against a righty-heavy team, but the Brewers continue to strike out at an extremely high rate. He’s inexpensive, so he makes a solid case for an SP2 on DraftKings.

Jason Vargas

Jason Vargas is pitching out of his mind over the past three games. He’ll face one of the worst offenses in the major leagues, but I believe it’s a trap. While the White Sox have a 23.8 strikeout percentage (6th highest) and a 67 WRC+ (worst in the league), people will overlook the fact that they have a 16.9 strikeout percentage (5th lowest) and a 114 WRC+ (6th best) against lefties. I realize these are very small samples, but I don’t think Vargas can sustain this level of success and the matchup isn’t as good as it may seem. I will have a full fade on Vargas at his price on Monday.

Coors Hitters

The Rockies side should yield a higher total as they face off against Jacob Turner. The obvious top plays are Charlie Blackmon and Carlos Gonzalez, but really any Rockies hitter is in play if you can fit them. Coors hitters are priced extremely high so it will be difficult to fit more than a couple in cash games. For example, Bryce Harper is priced at $6,100 on DraftKings and is facing a lefty. I’ll wait one more day to deploy him at Coors Field.

Brian Dozier

Dozier is my favorite tournament play on the board and may even make my cash game roster at his high price. He’ll face lefty Martin Perez and will play in a great hitting environment. The Twins in general are a sneaky stack tonight with a Coors game on the slate, and I may have a couple of them in cash games.

Mike Moustakas

Moustakas continues to be the reason I haven’t played Nolan Arenado at all this year. He’ll face Miguel Gonzalez and is only $3,300 on DraftKings. I’ll gladly take this discount, pass on Arenado, and fit both Carlos Gonzalez and Charlie Blackmon in my lineup.

Notes

Zack Greinke faces the Padres at home. Last time out, he threw eight innings against the Padres, but the ballpark shift hurts. I like Greinke as a GPP play, but I will likely avoid him in cash games.

Don’t be afraid to take high priced players in non-Coors matchups in tournaments. There are a lot of quality hitters priced up who should come in at low ownership.

Many factors can change between the time I write this article and the time lineups lock. I’ll do my best to update the article, so checking back frequently is encouraged. You can also ask questions on Twitter @fantasbeast15. I’ll do my best to get to all of them!
