DFS NBA FanDuel Lineup Advice & Spreadsheet 1/23/17

I’m back! I’ve been out for over a week with a sickness, so there has been no spreadsheet, articles, or podcasts coming from me during that time. I have returned with not only today’s spreadsheet but a full-blown advice column as well! Before we jump into tonight’s slate, I just wanna mention a few things…

Starting soon we will again start having eSports and NASCAR DFS content, so be on the lookout for those.

Starting this week I will be bringing NBS DFS back to the Press Coverage Podcast. I haven’t put out a DFS podcast for months for reasons I don’t need to get into, but they will be returning this week. I will have some returning guests like Gerson and Jason, but I’m going to have a few new guests join us as well, so be on the lookout for that.

And finally, the biggest news of all, we will soon be headed to the App Store for iOS! I’m still working out the details, but I’m hoping by mid-February we should have an app available to download! More details to come.

Now, let’s get to the good stuff… (spreadsheets embedded at the bottom)

NBA DFS Legend

Nothing But NetMy top plays of the night at his position.
DunkA Dunk is a second or third tier player with the highest upside.
Half-Court ShotOtherwise known as a “punt play.” A Low-priced, high-upside player.
Blocked Shot A player I’ll be avoiding. Otherwise known as “Fading.”

**Main Slate

Point Guard

Nothing But Net | John Wall $9,700 @ CHA

NBA FanDuel Lineup 1/23/17Wall has been a man possessed lately having just registered his third straight double-double and averaging nearly 45 (44.65) FanDuel points in the month of January. He dropped 53 on the Hornets early this year and could easily put up that type of game again tonight.

Dunk | Reggie Jackson $6,400 vs SAC

He has strung together two back-to-back good games after struggling earlier this month and tonight he gets a good matchup with the Kings that are fourth worst DvP (defense vs position) over the last four weeks.

Half-Court Shot | Dejounte Murray $3,800 @ BKN **Actually listed as an SG, Raymond Felton $4,900 is my PG

Murray will likely be the chalk play of the night, especially in your cash games, but the value is too good to ignore. Tony Parker is expected to miss another game with a foot injury giving Murray his third straight start. His last two starts he had 23.4 and 30.4 Fanduel points respectively and tonight has the worst team in the league in DvP at the point guard position. Match. Made. In. Heaven.

Blocked Shot | Kemba Walker $7,900 vs WAS

Kemba historically has struggled against John Wall’s defense averaging only 31 Fanduel points against him over the last two years. Add to that Walker’s normal volatility even in good matchups and I’ll pass tonight.

Shooting Guard

Nothing But Net | James Harden $11,900 @ MIL

The last time Harden and Giannis Antetokounmpo played against one another they both put up over 58 FanDuel points. I’d feel comfortable with either of these guys on my roster and would probably lean to The Alphabet if not for all the rumors of locker unrest coming from the Bucks camp.

Dunk | Nicolas Batum $7,300 vs WAS

Where Kemba Walker struggles against the Wizards, Batum flourishes. He averages nearly 40 Fanduel points against the Wizards over the last two years and is coming off his first 40-plus Fanduel point night since late December. With my expectations of Walker struggling in this game, look for Batum to pick up the slack.

Half-Court Shot | Iman Shumpert $4,000 @ NO

Truth be told, I’ve yet to roster Shump this season, but after four straight 20-plus FanDuel point games and a great matchup with my Pels, it may be time to change my tune. Over those aforementioned four games, Shump has averaged 31 minutes and has seen an increase in every game. It would be hard for him to see more than the 38 minutes he saw last game, but that game went into OT, so another 30-plus minutes can be expected.

Blocked Shot | Victor Oladipo $5,700 @ UTA

It’s Utah…that is all.

Small Forward

Nothing But Net | Kawhi Leonard $9,800 @ BKN

With six straight games over 40 FanDuel points, and four of those six going over 50, Leonard is playing as good as anyone right now, including the two small forwards priced above him (Kevin Durant, LeBron James), so save the cash and get the same production from Leonard. There is a bit of blowout factor in this game, but because Leonard’s price is still under 10k, I think he can hit value even in a blowout.

Dunk | Marcus Morris $5,400 vs SAC

The recent injury to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has opened the door for Morris to be more aggressive on the offensive end of the court. He has two straight double-doubles and could have had a third with one more rebound in L.A. a few games ago. The Kings are middle of the pack in DvP for the small forward position over the last four weeks, but some of that has to do with their pace of play and Rudy Gay‘s defense. Gay is out for this game and the foreseeable future, and as long as KCP is out again, the Piston’s will need Morris to be one of their main offensive options.

Half-Court Shot | Joe Ingles $3,900 vs OKC/Sam Dekker $4,300 @ MIL

I couldn’t decide who I liked more between these two, so I put them both here. As long as Rodney Hood is out, Ingles should see another 30-plus minutes and he isn’t afraid to shoot.

Dekker was recently inserted into the starting lineup, and if that continues, look for him to put up good FanDuel numbers at his price tag. He is a high energy guy with 3-point range. What more could you ask for on a team that is going to shoot 3’s at a record pace and will only cost you $4,300?

If you really want to get sneaky, play them both and pay up everywhere else. I’d have a hard time fading Kawhi Leonard to do it, but it could make for an interesting lineup.

Blocked Shot | LeBron James $10,600 @ NOR

He played 45 minutes in his last game in an overtime loss to the Spurs and the Cavs don’t really need him to be all-world in order to beat the Pels. Save the cash and take Leonard.

Power Forward

Nothing But Net | Anthony Davis $11,200 vs CLE

NBA FanDuel Lineup 1/23/17It always scares me to roster the Brow with his injury risks, but it’s also hard to ignore his 70-plus point upside. Kevin Love, as we know, is not a good defender and Davis should have his way with him. If they put Tristan Thompson on him, Davis can face the basket and abuse Thompson from the perimeter.

Dunk | Kevin Love $7,500 @ NO

Despite Anthony Davis being known as a great defender, the DvP does not reflect that. In fact, no team is worse than the Pels over the last four weeks, and it’s not even close. Over the last four weeks, the Pels have allowed an average of 57.5 FanDuel points — the next closest team, the Wizards, have allowed 51.4.

Half-Court Shot | Jon Leuer $4,500 vs SAC

I had a hard time finding an H-CS that I liked and almost left it blank. Ultimately I decided on Leuer simply based on his last game — his first game back since getting injured. He had 25 FanDuel points, which by itself isn’t eye-popping, but its how he did it that intrigues me. 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals over 25 minutes. That is what you call filling up the stat sheet.

Blocked Shot | Jabari Parker $7,400 vs HOU

Even though his “benching” didn’t affect his playing time or production, it still makes me nervous. He’d be a GPP only play for me, the upside is there.

Center

Nothing But Net | DeAndre Jordan $8,400 @ ATL

The Hawks on paper are a tough matchup for opposing centers — unless that center’s name is DeAndre Jordan. Jordan has owned Dwight Howard over his career and has averaged a shade under 40 FanDuel points against him over the last two years (when he played for the Rockets). With no Chris Paul and no Blake Griffin, Jordan has become the focal point of this Clippers team, and he should easily post another strong double-double tonight.

Dunk | Myles Turner $6,300 vs NY

Turner almost made my Nothing But Net designation had I not remembered Jordan’s history against Howard, that’s how much I like Turner tonight. Over the last four weeks, only three teams have given up more rebounds, on average, to opposing centers than have the Knicks. Overall the Knicks fair favorably in the DvP category, but rebounding is a place of weakness, whereas it’s a place of strength for Turner.

Half-Court Shot | None

Blocked Shot | Andre Drummond $7,700 vs SAC

His price is a bit steep for his production lately. It limits his upside. There are better options.
