DFS NFL Preseason Week 4 FanDuel & DraftKings Advice (8/31/17) *Updated*

Never thought I’d say this, but I’m sad to see the preseason go. Okay, who am I fooling, no I’m not. Week 1 is just around the corner. Make sure you check out my “Weekly Chalk Check” for Week 1. It basically will help you figure out who the chalk is for each week.

You can also look forward to A LOT of great DFS content, as well as season-long. Just some of the DFS articles we have will include, cash game lineups for both DraftKings and FanDuel, GPP only for both sites, a value article for both sites and a weekly “stack” report.

You can also get all of our content, with push notifications, on your iOS and Android devices by clicking here.

Okay, let’s get to tonight’s slate. First, before we dive in, the Texans’ and Cowboys’ game has been canceled, so do not use anyone from that game or they will get zero. Also, Week 4 is like the preseason for the preseason. It will be 90 percent third and fourth string guys or guys still battling for a roster spot, so don’t even bother rostering a starter or even a second string guy.

I’m keeping things short tonight because frankly, there isn’t much to go on. Here we go…

Quarterbacks

Kyle Sloter (DEN)

Starting QB Trevor Siemian won’t play in this game, backup QB Paxton Lynch (shoulder) will not play, leaving Sloter as the only other QB on the roster. He will play the entire game. He isn’t very good, but in the preseason,

“You don’t have to be the prettiest girl at the bar, you just have to be the only girl at the bar” — Matthew Berry ESPN.

Nate Sudfield (WAS)

Similar to Sloter, Sudfield has already been confirmed to be the only QB that will play for the Redskins. I like his skill set more than Sloter, but he will also be higher owned. Some Washingtonians believed Sudfield could be the QB of the future if Kirk Cousins leaves next season. I personally don’t see it, but maybe he will surprise us this game.

Mitchell Trubisky (CHI)

Man, how bad does this guy feel right now? Mike Glennon, who has been terrible this preseason, has won the starting job, which isn’t too surprising since they gave him a big contract, but Trubisky couldn’t even beat out Mr. Butt Fumble himself, Mark Sanchez. Both Glennon and Sanchez will sit out the last game of the season, leaving Trubisky to play the entire game. A home game against the Browns makes Trubisky an interesting option. Update: Turbisky is NOT playing the entire game, but will play a good chunk of it. Fourth string QB Connor Shaw will get some playing time as well. I still like Trubisky, just not as much.

Keith Wenning (BUF)

This guy is a super punt. He was just signed on Monday and now he will start — and finish — the fourth and final preseason game for the Bills. Both Tyrod Taylor and T.Y. Yates are in the concussion protocol and likely won’t be cleared in time to play.

Jeff Diskel (CIN)

He hasn’t played much this preseason, but he is 12-for-18 143 yards one TD and no picks, good for a 109.3 passer rating. He also has some decent rushing ability, and in the games, I’ve seen him in, he bails and runs a ton. I’m expecting the Bengals to play him the entire game but haven’t received a confirmation yet.

Running Backs

Matt Breida (SF)

Both Breida and Raheem Mostert are battling for a roster spot, and both should get a ton of looks. The loser of this battle likely lands on the practice squad. I’m tempted to use both, especially on DraftKings with the flex position.

Raheem Mostert (SF)

Knile Davis (PIT)

Another position battle at the RB spot is Knile Davis and Terrell Watson. If Davis can’t make the team, his career could be over.

Terrell Watson (PIT)

Watson, on the other hand, is a castoff from the Philadelphia Eagles but has played well in limited time this preseason. He too is likely playing for his career

Terron Ward (ATL)

Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman are not going to play in this game. Ward and RB Brian Hill were battling for the honor to backup Freeman and Coleman, but Hill was hurt in last week’s game, leaving Ward to get a good chunk of the reps in this game. It’s make or break for Ward.

Wide Receivers

Chris Godwin (TB)

DFS NFL FanDuel DraftKings Week 4 8/31/17

Godwin played 57 percent of the snaps last week and he is still likely fourth on the depth chart. Mike Evans and Desean Jackson aren’t going to play in this game and Adam Humphries (hip) likely won’t either.

Trent Taylor (SF)

Taylor only played 16 (26%) snaps last week, but he has looked good in limited time. With Pierre Garcon and likely Marquise Goodwin likely sitting this one one, Taylor should be on the field a lot in the game.

Updates below…

JuJu Smith-Schuster (PIT)

Steelers beat reporter Chris Adamski expects JJSS to play in this game after missing last week. He has yet to show that he can stay on the field for a whole game, but he is a big play just waiting to happen. In preseason, we only need one of those.

Brandon Reilly (BUF)

Reilly has been making some noise this preseason as an undrafted free-agent, and is now fighting for a spot on the 53-man roster. The Bills WRs leave a lot to be desired with career underperformers like Andre Holmes, Rod Streater, and Philly Brown.

Bernard Reedy (WAS)

Reedy will likely make the Redskins as a special-teamer, but he should see plenty of action at wide receiver tonight. He has 6 receptions for 65 yards in limited action this preseason.

DeAndre Smelter (SF)

This one is a little risky as Smelter has only seen special teams reps the last two games. I’m going with the pick as more of gut call than anything, but he is a big receiver that could be used as a red zone threat in this game.

Tight Ends

George Kittle (SF)

Vance McDonald was traded to the Steelers earlier this week, leaving Kittle as the likely starter now. As a rookie he will likely struggle in the regular season, but the 49ers may use this game as a way to get him some experience.

Vance McDonald (PIT)

As I mentioned above, McDonald was traded to the Steelers. He is an improvement, on paper at least, over incumbent TE Jesse James, but he has little time to learn a new system. McDonald has never quite become the “receiving” tight end in the pros he was billed as in college, but the Steelers may use this game to get him acclimated.

Trey Burton (PHI)

I haven’t been able to find any news on this guy and whether or not he is playing. If he plays, I like him a lot. He is  versatile player that played quarterback, running back and even wide receiver in college. He now plays TE for the Eagles and has been a good addition to their special teams. If I get confirmation that he is playing, I will tweet it out. Follow me @geofflambert77

Derek Carrier (WAS)

There is rumor today that the Redskins are looking to trade Carrier. They may try to “showcase” him in this game to increase his value. Of course, if he plays terrible it could back-fire. I’ll continue to monitor twitter to confirm his status.

Jeremy Sprinkle (WAS)

The other Washington TE that I expect to see a lot of is the rookie, Sprinkle. He said in an interview earlier this week that he was looking to “make his mark” in this last preseason game. Apparently he and QB Nate Sudfield have had good report in practice. Hopefully it will translate to the field.

Gerald Everett (LAR)

Either of the Rams TEs could be good in this game…. or both could be terrible. Everett offers a little more upside then Tyler Higbee as the more athletic of the two TEs.

Defense

Lions vs BUF

The Bills are starting a fourth string QB for the entire game. That’s all I need to say.
