DFS NFL Yahoo Week 12

Week 12 is a great time to get into Yahoo’s DFS format. For those who have been reading my previous articles, you’ll know that I attempt to point out the best player price value on Yahoo’s Sunday slate.

For roster and scoring settings, check out my Week 1 article.

Home and Dome

There are a few elements that I look at in order to find the most desired matchups. There is what I call Home and Dome, teams that are playing at home with an indoor stadium. Wind can be a factor that can negatively impact passing offenses and being indoors takes that element away. There are three teams that play Home and Dome in the Week 12 Sunday Slate:

Indianapolis Colts vs Tennessee Titans

Minnesota Vikings vs Carolina Panthers

Los Angeles Rams vs San Francisco 49ers

Quarterback

Patrick Mahomes (KC) $37 @ TB

This week’s highest projected scoring game is the Chiefs-Buccaneers contest. With 56.5 points combined over/under, Kansas City is also the largest single-team implied total as they are 3.5 point favorites.  At $37, this is the second-lowest price for Patrick Mahomes this season. Yes, he has a difficult matchup against the Tampa Bay defense, but that is certainly not reflected in Vegas lines. This might be the week to go after not only Mahomes, but stack with others from this game.

Taysom Hill (NO) $28 @ DEN

Well, it finally happened. Taysom Hill actually became a QB. And while his excellent Week 11 fantasy performance was due to two rushing touchdowns, Hill was still efficient as a passer. With the $4 increase in price comes much more security that Hill will play the majority of the game.

More Value: Jared Goff (LAR) $26

Running Back

Derrick Henry (TEN) $29 @ IND

Among running backs listed on the Sunday slate, Derrick Henry is fifth in fantasy points per game (and only 0.2 out of fourth place). However, he is priced outside the top five at the position. This is another example of a player who is close to the top of the price list, but is still considered a value. With the Colts star defensive lineman DeForest Buckner out for Week 12, Henry and the Titans offensive line will have an edge. Take advantage of the first time this season that Henry is below $30.

Wayne Gallman (NYG) $18 @ CIN

It is really difficult to find running backs with consistent volume below the $20 range. In four straight games, Wayne Gallman has at least 13 touches in every contest. And he has also been getting opportunities in the Red Zone, which helps his upside. Add Gallman’s workload with his matchup and you have a smash play. The Bengals are currently ranked 30th in Football Outsiders DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average). Go with Gallman and figure out the rest.

More Value: James White (NE) $16

Wide Receiver

Tyreek Hill (KC) $30 @ TB

A value doesn’t always have to be a player under a certain dollar amount. Instead, I look relative to other players, especially within a position group. At wide receiver, the most expensive play is $36. Tyreek Hill should be approaching that price. Instead, he is among eight wide receivers priced between $27 and $30. As mentioned with Patrick Mahomes, certain Chiefs players are slightly down in price tag due to the matchup against the Buccaneers defense. Hill is certainly worth the price.

Mike Evans (TB) $19 vs KC

After back-to-back games with at least 9 targets and double-digit fantasy points, Mike Evans has surprisingly dropped in price. A season-low $19 is a bargain for the wide receiver. He is currently leading in the NFL in Red Zone targets, which has helped his TD upside. Yes the consistency has not been there, but again, with his current price you can afford a bust without it being a complete failure for your line-up. Evans offers a cheap way to buy onto the Chiefs-Buccaneers game and it great for potentially stacking.

Cooper Kupp (LAR) $18 vs SF

While his first game against the 49ers wielded a poor fantasy output, Cooper Kupp still saw 9 targets. If he can maintain that at a minimum, he should be a solid play. If he continues the recent trend of target-hog time games (20 targets in Week 8, 13 targets in Week 11) then Kupp should be able to hit close to his ceiling.

More Value: Cole Beasley (BUF) $15

Tight End

Hunter Henry (LAC) $18 @ BUF

It’s the second week in a row that I recommend Hunter Henry in this spot. The Chargers-Bills game appears to be a favorable one for offensive players. With a 52.5 point combined over/under line, it’s the third-highest on the week. I always prefer tight ends in higher-scoring games.

Robert Tonyan (GB) $17 vs CHI

While the Bears have an impressive defense, the one area where they are most vulnerable is against the tight end. So far this season, Chicago has given up the 9th most fantasy points per game to tight ends. This bodes well for Robert Tonyan. Knowing that the Packers will likely look to pass in the Red Zone, Tonyan gets added value for TD upside.

More Value: Jonnu Smith (TEN) $13

Defense

Cleveland Browns $15 @ JAX

It seems as though nothing said Browns football like bad weather. While that may hurt some offensive fantasy production, it gives an edge to the team defenses.  In this case, I am especially interested Cleveland’s unit. On top of the game conditions, the Jaguars will be starting their third quarterback of the season. I usually like to target change in signal-callers, this week is no exception.

Green Bay Packers $14 vs CHI

Going for 2 teams that are changing quarterbacks. With the news that Mitchell Trubisky is starting, is makes playing his division rival all the easier. Truthfully, the struggles for the Bears offensive line also helps this play.
