Fantasy Football Breakout Candidate: Breshad Perriman

WR Breshad Perriman (New York Jets) | 6th Year

2019 Stats: 36 receptions for 645 yards, 6 TD

After losing his entire 2015 rookie season to injury, and never fully getting on track since, Breshad Perriman easily goes as a mark in the first-round bust column. But he got an opportunity with the Cleveland Browns in 2018, and in five December games that year he averaged 25.9 yards per catch.

Perriman landed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 2019 campaign, as the No. 3 wide receiver behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. When Evans and or/Godwin missed time late, Perriman had a particularly sweet December.

In five December games last year, Perriman had 25 receptions for 506 yards (20.2 yards per catch) and five touchdowns with three straight 100-yard games from Week 15-17. From Week 13-17 he was WR2 in standard scoring and WR3 in full PPR. Some fantasy leagues were certainly won on the back of that run, especially for those who had to find a fill-in for Evans or Godwin.

Perriman signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets this offseason, and he will step into the deep threat role vacated by Robby Anderson. Anderson had 52 catches for 779 yards and five touchdowns last season, and in line with Sam Darnold being healthy he was a solid WR16 in standard and full PPR from Week 13-17.

Perriman will be behind Jamison Crowder in the pecking order for targets, with rookie wide receiver Denzel Mims in the mix too. If Chris Herndon is good to go he and Ryan Griffin look to be a capable tight end duo, and Le’Veon Bell is in line for plenty of targets out of the backfield.

Perriman will be very hit-and-miss on a week-to-week basis, not too different from how Anderson has been. Anything close to a 16-game projection based on last year’s final five games (80 receptions for 1,619 yards and 16 touchdowns) is certainly enticing, but it’s not going to happen.

That said, Perriman’s ADP is a significant discount at WR58 (pick 14.02; 12-team PPR) and WR64 (pick 14.03; 12-team standard, via Fantasy Football Calculator). So betting on any kind of breakout is easier, even into WR3 range.

2020 Projection: 55 receptions for 850 yards, 6 TD

Breakout Confidence: 59%
