Fantasy Football Week 16 Streamers: QB, TE, Team Defense

Before moving to Week 16, let’s take a look at how Week 15’s streamers did (hopefully there was time to pivot from the tight end, Yahoo! scoring, 0.5-point PPR).

Quarterback: Justin Fields-16.9 points
Tight End: Austin Hooper-0 (COVID-19 list)
Team Defense: Miami Dolphins-9 points

As of this writing, there are still two Week 15 games left on Tuesday night (Washington Football Team-Philadelphia Eagles; Seattle Seahawks-Los Angeles Rams). But the broad context looking forward can still be done, so here are my quarterback, tight end and team defense fantasy football streamers for Week 16.

Quarterback: Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers at Tennessee Titans (Thursday night)

Garoppolo didn’t have to air it out much in Week 15 against the Atlanta Falcons, but he was efficient (18-for-23 for 235 yards, one touchdown) as he reached 10 yards per pass attempt for the second time in three games. Prior to that game he had multiple passing touchdowns in five of six games, and Week 16 looks like a good opportunity.

The Tennessee Titans are lined up to enter Week 16 allowing the second-fewest fantasy points to running backs. On the flip side, despite improvement over their last two games, they’ll still going be bottom-10 against quarterbacks. The 49ers like to lean on the ground game, but Garoppolo is likely to have to air it out more on Thursday night.

Garoppolo has been a passable fantasy quarterback for a solid stretch now (QB5 from Week 8-14, more than 20 fantasy points-Yahoo! scoring in three of those seven games, more than 15 fantasy points in six of the seven). Based purely on a stable floor and a high ceiling as he pushes toward 35-40 pass attempts against the Titans, “Jimmy G” sits as my top quarterback streamer for Week 16.

Others To Consider: Jared Goff, Detroit Lions at Atlanta Falcons (be sure he comes off COVID list); Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins at New Orleans Saints (Monday night); Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Tyler Huntley, Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals (if Lamar Jackson is out); Justin Fields, Chicago Bears at Seattle Seahawks; Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons vs. Detroit Lions; Mac Jones, New England Patriots vs. Buffalo Bills; Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars at New York Jets

Tight End: James O’Shaughnessy, Jacksonville Jaguars at New York Jets

Tight end remains gross for streaming options this week. But O’Shaughnessy has at least four targets in four straight games since coming off IR, and (with the help of being ignored by the Texans’ defense on a 30-yard play), he had four catches for 60 yards in Week 15. Week 16 is too good a matchup to ignore.

The New York Jets are among the bottom-10 fantasy defenses against tight ends, and they’re going to enter Week 16 allowing no better than the seventh-most yards to the position. The Jaguars will have production potential against an all-around bad defense.

O’Shaughnessy could get to double-digit full PPR points on Sunday, and the floor is probably five PPR points. Tight end beggers can’t be choosers at this point, and here were are.

Yahoo! Ownership: 2%

Others To Consider: Evan Engram, New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles; David Njoku/Austin Hooper, Cleveland Browns at Green Bay Packers (Christmas Day); Ryan Griffin, New York Jets vs. Jacksonville Jaguars; Tyler Conklin, Minnesota Vikings vs. Los Angeles Rams; Albert Okwuegbunam, Denver Broncos at Las Vegas Raiders

Team Defense: Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants

Going into their Week 14 bye, the Eagles allowed 18 points or less in four of six games. They are playing Washington on Tuesday night for their Week 15 contest, and the WFT could be down to Garrett Gilbert as their starting quarterback with a COVID-19 thinned offensive line. We’ll book that as a solid fantasy outing coming for the Philadelphia defense, and their Week 16 matchup is fantastic.

After going with Mike Glennon in place of Daniel Jones (neck, now out for the season), the New York Giants are considering starting Jake Fromm. Fromm completed six of 12 passes for 82 yards in his first career regular season action in Week 15, and he can’t be any worse than Glennon.

The Giants may get Kadarius Toney back off the COVID-19 list this week, but in the seemingly weekly injury to their wide receiver group they lost Sterling Shepard to a torn Achilles in Week 15.

The Eagles held the Giants to 13 points with one sack and no takeaways back in Week 12. It’s not a stretch to say they’ll allow fewer points with a handful of takeaways and sacks this time around.
