Great Value on the Cereal Scale for Redraft 2021

I don’t know about you, but I love cereal. I can eat it for breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, second lunch, dinner, second dinner and dessert. My favorite cereal right now has got to be Reese’s Puffs. Listen to this description: “Enjoy the delicious creamy balance of real Reese’s peanut butter and Hershey’s cocoa with milk for breakfast or by itself for a school snack.” How can you not fall in love with that delicious goodness? I love it all. Lucky Charms has delicious marshmallow treats, while Fruity Pebbles is filled with fruity crunchy things.

Redraft

But do you remember as a kid when your parents would go to the grocery store and pick up the off-brand of your favorite cereal? Now, you’re eating “Fruity O’s” instead of “Fruit Loops” or trying to work your way through “Honey Nut O’s” instead of the “Honey Nut Cheerios” that you originally had asked for. Specifically, I remember eating many boxes of Great Value cereal, bought right off the shelves at your local Wal-Mart. Today, I am taking you through a few players that I believe hold great value in redraft as you enter your Fantasy Football drafts this year!

Julio Jones – Atlanta Falcons WR (Great Value Cereal Comparison – Frosted Shredded Wheat)

Julio Jones just turned 32. Quite a few suggest that his career has reached its peak, given the obvious of his age, but his nagging hamstring injury that he suffered halfway through the year certainly didn’t help matters. Calvin Ridley’s strong presence also indicates that Jones may not be the favorite go-to WR on the Falcons anymore. However, Julio still managed to average 16.2 fantasy points (PPR) in only 9 games in 2020. That was good enough to rank Julio 14th in points per game, despite only playing in 9 games! Julio reminds me of Frosted Shredded Wheat because this cereal is good if you eat it quick, but before long, the milk makes it way too soggy. Julio will start off healthy for you but expect him to miss a game here and there later in the season as injuries begin to take a toll on the 32-year-old. You will be able to find value in the mid-rounds here, so you can focus on stud running backs early in your draft!

Melvin Gordon III – Denver Broncos RB (Great Value Cereal Comparison – Cinnamon Crunch)

MGIII reminds me of Cinnamon Crunch. It looks boring, but it provides a decent kick to your palate and can easily help “win your day” with a second helping. Melvin Gordon made his appearance in Denver in 2020 after spending the past five seasons with the Chargers. It was hard to get excited about Gordon’s outlook in Denver, as he was projected to share time with Phillip Lindsay, but ultimately, Gordon finished the season 13th in PPR leagues with 215 carries for 986 yards on the ground and 9 TDs. He also added in 32 receptions for 158 yards and 1 TD. Phillip Lindsay was involved as planned too. He contributed 118 carries, but it didn’t seem to affect Gordon and your team, especially since Melvin Gordon was operating as your second or third running back on your roster anyway. Phillip Lindsay is entering free agency this offseason, so Melvin Gordon should present some decent value if you are able to roster him as your second or third running back.

Tyler Boyd – Cincinnati Bengals WR (Great Value Cereal Comparison – Berry Crunch)

Tyler Boyd is the equivalent of Berry Crunch. You will find some bites that are delicious and other bites that are boring and void of all berries. Tyler Boyd has some weeks where he will get you 100 yards and 1 TD and other weeks with 15 total yards. There has been a ton of praise and excitement revolving around Tee Higgins this offseason. Admittedly, what’s there not to like? But don’t allow all that noise to make you forget about Tyler Boyd. This past season, Boyd actually finished only 2 points behind Tee Higgins in PPR leagues. Boyd capped off the year with 79 receptions for 841 yards and 4 TDs. He saw 2 more targets than Higgins (110 to 108) and will continue to be a focal point of this offense. Tyler Boyd will make a great asset on your fantasy team and can be had in later rounds as others reach for Tee Higgins.

Odell Beckham Jr – Cleveland Browns WR (Great Value Cereal Comparison – Fruit Spins)

Odell Beckham Jr reminds me of Fruit Spins. You ask yourself, “How did we get from the classic Fruit Loops, to now eating “Fruit Spins” which remind you of Fruit Loops but just don’t cut it. Let’s be honest here. OBJ will not come back and be a top 10 WR for you like he was from 2014-2016. Unfortunately, we saw Odell’s season cut short this past season due to an ACL injury. Before Odell Beckham went down with an injury, he was averaging just over 6 targets a game. I will take that all day, for a WR in the later rounds! I do believe he will come back and be good enough to be a WR3/4 for your team and a decent bench stash during bye weeks. Baker Mayfield and the entire Browns offense showed improvement throughout the season and that will play well as OBJ enters his third year on this Browns run-first offense. Grab Odell late in drafts and get ready to have a decent replacement during your bye weeks!
