March Madness “Super” Eliminator: The Final Four

We had some HUGE upsets in the Elite 8. The King himself falls to Russell Westbrook and it wasn’t even close. Westbrook took James down with 91 percent of the votes. 91 percent! That is by far the most lopsided victory of the tournament, even the Flash got 25% against Batman!

I thought for sure we would get a Tom Brady vs LeBron James matchup, but that was not to be. In fact, Brady fell in a lopsided victory as well losing to Antonio Brown while only mustering 36 percent of the votes. I guess the haters were out in full force for this round.

The “Nerds” side of the bracket was a much closer affair. No. 2 seed Mario moves on to the Final Four with his victory over Sonic the Hedgehog. Mario beat Sonic in the 90s console wars too, so why not now. The other matchup was a bit of a surprise to me as well as Batman fell to Wolverine 54-to-46, setting up an epic battle between probably the two shortest contenders in the tourney.

3. Russell Westbrook vs 3. Antonio Brown

Russell Westbrook has the advantage here in my opinion simply because his sport is actually being played at the moment and Westbrook has been dominating lately. He just put up 50 points as part of a triple -double, making him and James Harden the only players to accomplish that feat twice in one season — both doing it this year mind you.

Brown’s only chance to win this battle would be on the sheer popularity of his sport over the NBA. In American sports, there is no denying that the NFL is king, and if Brown has any shot to make it to the championship game, he is going to need those NFL fans to come out of hibernation to vote for him.

2. Mario vs 4. Wolverine

Mario is easily the most recognized video game character of all-time. Link would come in a close second, but how many non-video game fans think his name is Zelda? So Mario takes that title. It’s no surprise he has made it this far, but now he has to step outside of the video game world to battle the surprising four-seeded Wolverine.

Wolverine’s path to the Final Four was a tough one. First, he had to defeat the iconic Spider-Man who just so happens to have a movie being released soon. Then he had to go through the modern day phenom in Deadpool, and I say modern day because four years ago most non-nerds probably didn’t know who he was. And then, he had to defeat the No. 1 seeded and arguably to most recognized comic book character of all-time (Superman might have something to say about that) in Batman.

Let’s get ready to rumble!
