MLB Daily DraftKings Picks and Writeup for 5/22 by RotoTrick

  Top Pitching Options

Max Scherzer (DK – $12700) – Despite his hefty price tag, Scherzer is the elite play at pitcher today. He’s been absolutely dominant on the year with a 2.60 SIERA and 29.5% strikeout rate. In his last 4 starts he’s pitched 7 inning every time, had double digit Ks three times, and scored 23+ DraftKings points every time. He’ll take on the Phillies who have the MLB’s 3rd worst wOBA vs. RHP at 0.278 and strike out 18.9%. As the biggest favorite on the day at -290, he should be your favorite too.

Michael Pineda (DK – $9400)
– If you don’t want to pay up for Scherzer or what to spend big on pitching, Pineda is in a great spot tonight. He’s the second biggest favorite of the day at -180 and faces a Texas team that struggles on the road and against RHP. The Rangers have the 25th ranked wOBA vs. RHP at 0.293 and strikeout the 22nd most at 21.2%. Pineda’s numbers have been great on the year with a 2.42 SIERA and 26.2% strikeout rate. There’s lots of upside to like here.

Rick Porcello (DK – $7100)
– If you’re looking to save on pitching or find a right priced SP2, Porcello is in a great spot tonight. Porcello faces an Angels team that has struggled against RHP all year to the tune of an MLB worst 0.272 wOBA. And if you think the Angels are heating up lately, they still only have a 0.293 wOBA against RHP over the last 7 days. They also strikeout an average 20.1% of the time and should continue to struggle in this one. Porcello has a 3.77 SIERA on the year and a 20.4% strikeout rate. Though a win may be tough to come by against Garrett Richards, Porcello should put up solid numbers for his price tag.

Top Hitting Options

Bryce Harper OF (DK – $5500) – Harper will likely be the highest owned player on DraftKings today, but with good reason. Until being ejected on Wednesday after one at bat, Harper had double digit fantasy points in 7 straight games. After essentially 2 days of rest, he should come out firing and is in a dream matchup. The Nationals face the Phillies’ Sean O’Sullivan who gives up a 0.459 wOBA to LHH and Harper boasts an insane 0.527 wOBA, 0.471 ISO, and 238 wRC+. Due to O’Sullivan’s 5.79 HR/9 vs. LHH, Harper could be in for a double dong day.

Jimmy Paredes 3B/OF (DK – $4500)
– Paredes has been been Mr. Reliable this year. He’s scored DraftKings points in 21 straight games and only put up a 0 once all year. Overall he has a 0.437 wOBA and 0.293 ISO against RHP and faces another weak righty in Henderson Alvarez. Alvarez has an 0-3 record and 6.23 ERA and although he may be a bit unlucky based off his 3.94 SIERA, he’s been pitching to a lot of contact and paid for it. Paredes offers great upside and also nice lineup flexibility with his 3B/OF eligibility.

Freddie Freeman 1B (DK – $4000)
– Freeman at $4k on DraftKings is too good to ignore, as he should be priced at least $500 more expensive. Freeman has a 0.383 wOBA and 0.198 ISO on the year vs. RHP and tonight gets Willy Peralta who gives up a 0.399 wOBA vs. LHH. The Braves team has a solid 0.314 wOBA vs. RHP and the 2nd best strikeout rate at only 15.6%. They should be able to put some runs up on the Brewers and Freeman will likely be in the thick of it. He’s a great cash game option.

Top Value Play

Danny Espinosa 2B/SS (DK – $3300)
– All 5 of Espinosa’s HRs this year have come off RHP and he has a 0.355 wOBA and 0.250 ISO against them on the year. Facing O’Sullivan tonight and his 0.459 wOBA vs. LHH, Espinosa offers great value.
