In-depth analysis of the starting pitchers on Monday, August 20, 2018 (8/20) MAIN SLATE to help you build winning cash game and tournament lineups on Draftkings and FanDuel.

TOP PLAYS

Zach Wheeler (NYM) vs SFG: 9.3DK, 9.1FD

Zach has been outstanding over his last 5 starts, averaging 25 DK points. Now he gets to face a below average Giants team that has a 23% k rate and a below average 120 iso vs righties over the past month. I’m confident that Zach can dominate this weak Giants lineup and post at least 25 DK once again. He is my top pitcher on the slate.

Gerrit Cole (HOU) @ SEA: 13.3DK, 10.6FD

While Gerrit just faced this Seattle team and gave up 4 ER while only striking out 5, we know this guy has been a stud all year. He could post a ceiling game in any matchup.  Seattle has been pretty good vs righties with their 19% k rate and 182 iso. Gerrit has a massive 41.5% k rate vs lefties and a 29% k rate vs righties.  I wouldn’t play him in cash games, but I wouldn’t mind taking a shot on him in tournaments.

Kevin Gausman (ATL) @ PIT: 7.1DK, 7.5FD

Kevin gets to pitch outside hitter-friendly Atlanta and is going into pitcher-friendly Pittsburg to face the pirates. Pit has a 21% k rate and a 142 iso vs righties over the last month. Kevin has a 19% k rate to both sides of the plate, while limited hard contact to both sides. While he doesn’t have much k upside in this matchup. I would feel confident pairing him with Wheeler in cash games.

VALUE/PUNT OPTION

On FanDuel, I’m hesitant to go below Gausman, but on DK there is 1 guy that is interesting.

Stephen Gonsalves (MIN) vs CWS: 5.4DK

Stephen will be making his MLB Debut. This is almost a perfect spot for a team to set their rookie up for success in his MLB Debut. The White Sox have a massive 29% k rate vs lefties over the past month with a 165 iso. Stephen has shown decent k ability in AAA with a 23% k rate. he has a WHIP of 1.20, which isn’t terrible. This is a tournament only option, but I’m willing to take a shot on a rookie with good k stuff vs a team that ks a lot.
