NBA DFS FanDuel Lineup Advice (12/9/2016)

Get ready for the weekend with some DFS hoops action on a solid nine-game slate. The slate includes a matchup of MVP front-runners with the Rockets and James Harden traveling to Oklahoma City to face the Thunder and Russell Westbrook. Both are solid plays as always but there are a few other stud options who offer some savings that are also worth strong consideration.

As always be sure to watch for late-breaking news before finalizing your lineup. So, with that here are my FanDuel player recommendations for the Friday slate…

NBA DFS FanDuel lineup advice for December 9, 2016

Point Guards

Top Play

Russell Westbrook (OKC) $12,700

You don’t need me to tell you to play Westbrook owner of six straight triple-doubles. Should get #7 with ease against in a close up-tempo game against the Rockets. Houston has been a negative matchup for opposing PG on the season so there could be merit to saving some salary and fading him in GPPs.

Value Pick

Terry Rozier (BOS) $4,200

Scored 27 FanDuel points in his last game with Isaiah Thomas out. Thomas will be out again on Friday putting Rozier in play as a cheap option to pair up with Westbrook at PG. He has a tough matchup against the Raptors but should get around 25 minutes which will be enough to reach about 5x his salary.

Other Options: Kemba Walker (CHA) $8,400 / Goran Dragic (MIA) $7,300 / Deron Williams (DAL) $6,000

Shooting Guards

Top Pick

Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL) $10,300

Going to save some money and “pay down” for the Greek Freak over James Harden at SG on Friday. Harden has more potential upside for GPP lineups but Antetokounmpo actually has a better matchup against the Hawks who have allowed opposing SG to score more points (+6.3%), assists (+4.6%), steals (+22.8%) and blocks (+13.0%) than the average this season.

Value Pick

Lou Williams (LAL) $6,000

Williams “cooled off” a little in his last game against the Rockets only scoring 24 points in 25 minutes. His minutes should bounce back to 32+ against a Suns team that has allowed 11.0% more points to opposing SG this season. Look for another 30+ point effort from Williams

Other Options: James Harden (HOU) $11,500 / Victor Oladipo (OKC) $6,500 / Devin Booker (PHX) $5,900

Small Forwards

Top Pick

Rudy Gay (SAC) $7,200

Gay matchups up against Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks on Friday and I am good with either one of the small forward for nearly identical prices. I give a slight edge to Gay who I think has a little bit more safety and has played well better over his last two games including a 41.8 FanDuel score against the Knicks on Sunday.

Value Pick

Brandon Ingram (LAL) $4,200

The minutes have consistently been there for Ingram with D’Angelo Russell still out. Ingram has averaged almost 34 minutes per game over his last nine games. The production for the rookie has been inconsistent but he gets a favorable matchup Friday against the Suns.

Other Options: LeBron James (CLE) $9,800 / Carmelo Anthony (NYK) $7,300 / Harrison Barnes (DAL) $6,100

Power Forwards

Top Pick

Paul Millsap (ATL) $8,000

Millsap is probable for the game against the Bucks on Friday night. Assuming he plays he should find success down low against the Bucks interior defense. The production might not all come in the points column as Millsap can also stuff the stat sheet in rebounds, assists, steals and blocks all categories that the Bucks have allowed increase production to PFs.

Value Pick

Dwight Powell (DAL) $4,000

With the Mavericks short-handed down low, Powell will continue to see an increase in his minutes and potential fantasy production at a cheap price. He has at least five rebounds in his last four games and could challenge for double-digit boards tonight against

Other Options: Kristaps Porzingis (NYK) $7,400 / Julius Randle (LAL) $6,400 / Enes Kanter (OKC) $5,100

Centers

Top Pick

Demarcus Cousins (SAC) $11,200

Cousins offers some salary savings from the big Westbrook/Harden matchup and could be in an even better spot against the Knicks who he lit up for 63.6 FanDuel points on Sunday. The Knicks have struggled with big men allowing additional points (+18.0) and rebounds (+8.7%) to opposing centers.

Value Pick

Bismack Biyombo (ORL) $4,400

Couldn’t find and “safe” low-cost options at center so recommending Biyombo who has three double-digit rebounding efforts in his last five games and get a plus matchup for rebounds against the Hornets who have allowed an additional 10.2% rebounding to opposing centers.

Other Options: Andre Drummond (DET) $8,200 / Al Horford (BOS) $7,900 / Dwight Howard (ATL) $7,800

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
