Quarterback
Cam Newton (7,300) vs. MIA
NFL is finally back! I will be the cash game Fanduel writer this year! Remember these are cash game plays 50/50 or H2H. At Quarterback in Week 1 I’m in on Cam Newton. He gets a phenomenal matchup here against Miami and he will have rushing upside, normally I don’t like paying down at QB, but Miami ranked 27th against the pass last year and Newton will be handed the keys to an offense that has never struggled to score.
Running Back
Austin Eckler (7,700) @ CIN
Austin Eckler is a great play in Week 1. Normally he is a guy I like to play on Draftkings due to the full point PPR, but I’m expecting Eckler to get anywhere from 20-25 touches plus whatever he adds receiving. The Bengals were 26th against running backs last season, and the Chargers don’t have a whole lot of talent on their roster outside of Eckler and Allen.
Wide Receiver
Mike Evans (7,500) @ NO
It’s hard not to like this Bucs vs Saints game, it seems to be a shootout every single year. So why Mike Evans over Chris Godwin you might ask? Well Evans is $200 cheaper and in both games last season vs the Saints Godwin was shut down. The Saints were 26th in the league defending the WR position. I am also playing Michael Thomas is my cash lineup to run it back, but I cannot give out a full lineup.
Wide Receiver
Julian Edelman (6,700) vs. MIA
Julian Edelman is not a player I normally roster, but when you have Cam Newton as your QB you want to get a nice connection, that’s why I’m going Edelman here. Fanduel is much more touchdown dependant than Draftkings, and the next best options for Newton to throw to are Sanu and Harris. Miami ranked 30th vs the WR position last season making Edelman in a prime spot.
Tight End
Rob Gronkowski (5,500) @ NO
Hey would you look at that Tom Brady even got to bring his boy Gronk to Tampa Bay! The Saints ranked 20th vs Tight Ends last season and you’re bringing in one of the best ever at a fairly discounted price sign me up. Look I know Gronk is getting older along with Brady, but this team hates OJ Howard and he has been on the trading block for 2 seasons. On a site like Fanduel where touchdowns are more important, Gronk doesn’t need to do a ton to be a very solid cash play.
Defense
Philadelphia Eagles (4,500)
Defense is always hard, and I’m not in the business to project defensive touchdowns and punt returns. The Washington Football Team (going take a bit to get used to that name) was 26th against opposing fantasy defensives in terms of DFS. Their offensive line was ranked 29th via Pro Football Focus and their Quarterback is Dwayne Haskins. The Eagles defensive is actually pretty good to start and we are getting a cook cutter matchup in Week 1.
