NFL DFS FanDuel GPP Plays for Week 2

Welcome to the Week 2 edition of the NFL DFS FanDuel GPPs plays. Week 2 is generally a great week for GPP contests since many casual DFS participants tend to overreact to players who overperformed and underperformed in Week 1. You probably will find some elite players at low ownership who will rebound in a huge way this week and could very well catapult you to the top of a GPP leaderboard. As a reminder, this article is meant more for stand-alone options and it is not necessarily recommended to use a majority of the players in one single GPP lineup. With that being said, let’s go ahead and take a look at my top GPP options for Week 2.

NFL DFS FanDuel GPP Plays for Week 2

DailyFantasyNerd FanDuel GPP Play of the Day

Gary Barnidge (CLE) vs. BAL $6,000
Gary Barnidge is my DailyFantasyNerd GPP play of the week for Week 2. His ownership percentage should be way down this week after he put up a goose egg in the first week of the season. With RGIII placed on injured reserve after injuring his shoulder, Josh McCown will now be leading the Browns’ offense. McCown and Barnidge had great chemistry in 2015. In the eight games that they played together last year, Barnidge had 69 targets, 46 receptions, 641 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Quarterbacks

Andrew Luck (IND) @ DEN $8,500
Many DFS players will likely be hesitant to roster Andrew Luck in this matchup and at this price tag, making him a great GPP option. The Colts defense is terrible, which means Luck will likely be making close to 40 passing attempts each game since it will be difficult for them to blow out their opponent. As long the Colts’ offensive line can keep Luck upright and in the game, he will have tremendous upside each and every week.

Cam Newton (CAR) @ SF $9,000
I imagine that Cam Newton’s ownership will likely be low in GPP’s since his price tag is pretty high and the 49ers’ defense is fresh off of a shutout against the Rams. I think the result of Monday night’s game was more about how bad the Rams’ offense played rather than how great the 49ers’ defense played. Since this game will feature a quick pace from Chip Kelly’s offense, Cam, and the Panthers’ offense should run more snaps than normal, resulting in greater upside for Cam.

Running Backs

Adrian Peterson (MIN) vs. GB $8,200
Adrian Peterson was terrible in Week 1 accumulating only 31 yards on 19 carries. Peterson typically responds to poor performances in a big way and the stage could not be any bigger than the first ever regular season game at U.S. Bank Stadium against the Packers in the Sunday night game. Also, it’s likely that Sam Bradford will get the nod this week which should prevent
Green Bay from stacking the box on Peterson.

Ezekiel Elliott (DAL) at WAS $7,900
Despite finding the end zone in Week 1, Ezekiel Elliott was inefficient on the ground with only 51 rushing yards in 20 attempts. To be fair, the matchup ended up being harder than expected since the Giants appeared to have improved their defense tremendously from last season. This week’s matchup against the Redskins should be much better for Elliott and he very well could put up huge numbers at a low ownership percentage.

Thomas Rawls (SEA) @ LA $6,600
Pete Carroll announced yesterday that Thomas Rawls would be the lead back for the Seahawks in Week 2. When Rawls was the lead back for the Seahawks in the second half of the 2015 season, he was extremely efficient with a league leading 5.6 yards per rushing attempt. If he can get 15-20 carries this week, he very well could go over 100 yards with at least one touchdown in a great matchup against the Rams.

Wide Receivers

Alshon Jeffery (CHI) vs. PHI $7,800
Alshon Jeffery had a decent game in Week 1 with four receptions and 105 yards. However, most of the damage came in the first half as the Texans’ defense was able to shut down the Bears in the second half. Jeffery is primed for a big game on Monday night against the Eagles since the Eagles are expected to be without their best cornerback, Leodis McKelvin. It has been reported that the Bears will try and exploit Eagles’ rookie cornerback Jalen Mills by lining up Jeffery in front of him.

Demaryius Thomas (DEN) vs. IND $7,000
Demaryius Thomas had a disappointing game in Week 1 against a stiff Carolina defense with only four receptions and 48 yards. Thomas will look to rebound in a great way this week against the Colts, who could very well threaten New Orleans as the worst passing defense in the league.

Dez Bryant (DAL) at WAS $7,700
Another player who had an extremely disappointing Week 1 was Dez Bryant. Bryant was only able to reel in one of his five targets for only eight yards against the Giants. Now this matchup against the Redskins is not a great one considering that the Redskins’ have two of the best cornerbacks in the league with Josh Norman and Bashaud Breeland. However, Dez is an elite receiver and anytime you can roster an elite player at low ownership, he is definitely worth a flier in a GPP contest.

Tight Ends

Antonio Gates (SD) vs. JAC $5,900
The Chargers lost Keenan Allen for the rest of the season with a torn ACL in Week 1. I imagine a lot of casual DFS players will flock to Travis Benjamin or Tyrell Williams, but I believe that Antonio Gates will be the primary beneficiary to the Allen injury. Gates has been Philip Rivers’ favorite target over the years and has multiple touchdown upside in a decent matchup against the Jaguars in Week 2.

Coby Fleener (NO) at NYG $5,600
In case you haven’t figured out my theme to this article, I really like going back to players who had a bad game in the previous week. People tend to put too much emphasis in the prior week’s game when it comes to football and I believe that is a mistake. Now I probably will not trust Fleener in cash games on FanDuel this week, but in GPPs I’m willing to use him again. The Saints have a great offense and Fleener is more than capable of rebounding in a big way against the Giants in Week 2.

Defense

Cardinals (ARI) vs. TB $4,800
Another option that I’m going right back to is the Cardinals’ defense. They did not have a great game against the Patriots last week, but they were able to still force two turnovers. Jameis Winston very well could be a great fantasy quarterback in 2016, but as far as a real life quarterback there is still much room for improvement. Winston is still going to make his share of mistakes and the Cardinals are more than capable of taking one of those mistakes back to the house for a score.

Patriots (NE) vs. MIA $4,500
Although the Patriots’ defense did not force any turnovers in Week 1, they still played great on the road in a difficult matchup. This week they have a much favorable matchup against the Dolphins at home and they very well could get a few sacks and a couple of turnovers.
