QB Nate Sudfeld Can Flourish With The Philadelphia Eagles in 2019

Before reading this I would like everyone to know that I am hoping and praying for a long healthy season from number 11 that results in another deep playoff run. I hope Wentz leads The Eagles back to the promise land. No matter what I am predicting an 11-5 season for Philadelphia this season. Ok now read away:

QB Nick Foles has most likely played his last game for The Eagles. It is sad but true. The team is moving forward with their franchise QB Carson Wentz for the 2019 season and beyond. The organization is (again most likely) making the right move here. All Eagles fans myself including will certainly miss Nick Foles for obvious reason, but Carson Wentz when healthy is the better player and is capable of leading The Philadelphia Eagles to more Super Bowl wins.

Make no mistake Wentz is a special player when he is 100 percent healthy. The only thing that bothers me is that he hasn’t played an entire season since 2016. He did have an amazing 12 game run in 2017 in which he finished 11-1 as the starter while throwing for 33 TD passes. (The most in a single season in franchise history.) When completely healthy QB Carson Wentz is a yearly MVP candidate.

The hope is he will return to form in 2019 after a fracture in his back prematurely ended his 2018 season. If he happens to get hurt a third time I may be the only Philadelphia Eagles fan that would not be in panic mode. Last years third string QB is the reason as to why. The answers yes. You read that correctly. Not only are the Eagles high on their soon to be second string QB to the point they’re about to resign him to a deal worth about 3.1 million per season, but so is the fan writing this article. I’m just going to say it.

He completely won me over as the team’s only bright spot in the 2018 pre-season in which he threw for 5 TD passes but impressed me in The Eagles last regular season game before the team’s playoff run as well. Against The Redskins in week 17 Nate stepped in for an injured Nick Foles and threw his first career TD pass. He looked poised in the few plays he ran in the team’s 24-0 beatdown of Washington. He also showed excellent mobility for a guy who is 6ft 7 235 pounds. (The Eagles sure seem to like big strong-armed QBs).

He has had two seasons to learn behind (in my opinion) two great QBs in Carson Wentz and Nick Foles. He has skills that are similar to both of his mentors. He has a strong arm, he’s more mobile than you think, and he has really good accuracy.

Remember this is a guy that Mel Kiper thought could have been drafted in the third round in 2017 when he was instead selected by Washington in the sixth. Remember the last Philadelphia Eagles QB that had a third-round grade? Now The Eagles aren’t going to just hand Nate the primary backup QB role, as they plan to bring in a veteran via free agency or late in the draft to compete with the 23-year-old signal caller.

That being said I expect him to win the job, and if Wentz can’t stay healthy perhaps much more for this Philadelphia Eagles team that has had the next man up mentality since they won the Super Bowl last January. That is the kind of culture the Eagles have and yet another reason why Nate Sudfeld could really succeed as their QB if he has to play. Both GM Howie Roseman and Head Coach Doug Pederson have said multiple times in the past that they believe Nate can start and be successful in the NFL.

I could see The Philadelphia Eagles still contending in the playoffs even if QB Carson Wentz goes down due to my level of confidence in QB Nate Sudfeld. This upcoming pre-season will be huge for him and the rest of the team as The Eagles will attempt to go on yet another deep playoff run for the third year in a row. Sudfeld is a prime example of why The Philadelphia Eagles like to develop a young talented QB behind the seasons every two to three years.

You never know when you might just need that young player to step up. (If he doesn’t need to, the kid at the least might just fetch The Philadelphia Eagles a pretty sweet draft pick for their efforts in a QB driven league.) A QB to keep an eye out for what will soon be The Eagles third-string QB job is QB Luis Perez of The AAF. The team has some interest, and Perez is yet another talented extremely cheap QB with a very good arm.

QB Nate Sudfeld after he threw a TD pass against the team that drafted him. (The Washington Redskins). He has already contributed on the field once before albeit a small sample size to help The Philadelphia Eagles reach the playoffs in 2018. I am excited to see this kid play again in 2019 Pre-season and if Wentz does go down during the teams 2019 playoff run. I am already a big fan of this kid. Won me over.
